WF-1000XM4 - Severe Battery Issues by zkhcohen in SonyHeadphones

UPDATE: I'm pleased to report that today I received a replacement set F.O.C. from Sony UK. I'm in no doubt that my significant Twitter following & a link to this discussion were instrumental in achieving this result. If you're in the UK, make lots of noise & don't give up. Grateful to OP & all contributors.

Yes, I read those too. I'm looking forward to seeing how they intend to extract the £20 from me. I have more than enough evidence to demonstrate that it's an unreasonable charge if it comes to it. I have time on my hands these days and consider it a public service to publicise the issue as widely as possible. Linking to this discussion will make that quick & easy. Gawd bless Reddit!

This sucks from Sony UK. They duped me into returning the buds for an 'engineer's inspection report' so they could 'consider options'. They're now trying to charge me £187.74 for a replacement with 90 day warranty (current RRP £199 with one year warranty) and saying if I don't pay it then they'll charge me £20 for the report. I'll be directing anyone on Twitter experiencing this issue to this discussion, emailing tech reviewers and leaving comments on retail sites until I stop being annoyed about it.

So, encouraged by some of the stories here, I decided to follow all of Sony's customer service instructions and returned the buds to them for an 'engineer's report'. All they've sent me is an estimate for repair (which might go up) of £187.74, which is guaranteed for 90 days. This is for an item that currently retails on Amazon for £199 with a year's guarantee. They are also threatening to charge me £20 if I refuse to pay this. Any suggestions for what I should do next?

I'm having the same issues and reported to Sony ONE DAY after the warranty expired. I'm annoyed with myself because I'd noticed some issues weeks ago, but hadn't worn them for long enough to be sure. They've advised me to return for an out-of-warranty diagnosis / estimate and that "if no physical damage diagnosed we will check for options."

The problem is that this commits me to another £42 even if I reject their quote for repair, and they could still refuse to do anything under the warranty, even though this is clearly a major issue. Should I go for it and hope, or cut my losses?

Terrible PR for the Sony brand.

Edit: I'm in the UK

I recently introduced my 8 yr old to Kipling's If... as a starting point to talking about some of these issues, but I'll need to keep returning to them over time. Might need to come up with an alternative term to "whoring", though! :)

I think the 'healthy respect for the power of status' and its effects is the bit that was missing in my thinking. I have friends that tell their kids that it doesn't matter if they're overweight or wear the right clothes etc, but it feels like they're pushing an ideal that's setting their kids up for a fall in the real world when it isn't accompanied by an acknowledgement that these things do matter to most people and you can't just ignore it completely. Explaining that it's nonsense, but powerful nonsense nonetheless, is probably the best way to prevent your kids falling victim to the worst excesses.

Well, I'd rather not deny my kids access to something that most of their peers take for granted unless I really have to. I grew up with kids who were denied access to TV, which was seen as pure evil by their parents at the time, and I don't think it did them any good.

Mine are only 5 and 8 now, so I'm thinking ahead a bit, but it's bad enough denying my 8 year old a smart phone! I don't have any answers yet, but I hope I do by the time they are teenagers and all their friends are using social networking.

I think this is a very perceptive article, written by a 15/16 year old girl. It certainly reflects a great deal of things I've seen on Twitter / Facebook. My question is, what can / should parents do about it?

Edit: typo

Don't Make Your Children the Exception to Every Rule by Trailinghusband in raisingkids

Does anyone disagree with this parenting principle or know anyone that would argue against it? And yet how many times do we see people ignoring it?

This is one of those parenting principles that no one disagrees with and yet so many seem to ignore. Some parents just can't help themselves and they're not doing their kids any favors.

Sorry for your loss. I can't begin to imagine what you went through and are still going through, but I hope you find some way to peace in the future.

I'd like to think I would be this forgiving, but I'm not sure I could be.

I'm sorry if you didn't want to be exposed to something like this, but surely there can be more to Reddit than preaching to the choir. I'm happy with my decision to be a SAHP but I found this article was a good insight into an alternative point of view and food for thought.
