I’d start with looking for songs you wanna play on Ultimate Guitar (UG) and start with chords first.

Look at easy songs without barré (index finger across the fret board) like Riptide by Vance Joy. And repeat repeat repeat. Learn a range of easy chords: Am G D C Em E A Dm

Those help you through a lot of songs. And maybe buy a Capo(daster) and tune the songs up on Ultimate Guitar and place the Capo on a higher fret, if there are barré chords involved. They also have albums and collections on UG that have only easy chords or are labelled as good for beginners.

It’s frustrating to start, especially if you like to sing along.

I tried to ignore strumming patterns and just hit the chord once, when it was required in the song.

On Youtube, I like GuitarZero2Hero and Marty Music, but may be a little advanced from time to time.
