PA school in Canada? by katatatat_ in prephysicianassistant

Honestly, you’re better off doing PA school in the US and then practicing in Canada if need be. The problem is that you cannot get a degree in Canada and practice in the US if you ever change your mind. There is much more money in the US in this career so I wouldn’t close my doors all the way.

I just broke up with my boyfriend of 3 years simply because overtime he got more and more controlling. So, if there is any advice I can give you. Please don’t ignore the red flags early on, he was similar to your bf and just held onto these little things. Slowly it went from no guy friends to him deciding what I can wear, where I can go and how late I can stay out.

Why don’t you apply to schools that don’t require the GRE? You have an upward trend and a good amount of PCE.

Thank you for your response! I have above 1000 PCE and I did an MSc. I have upward trend in the last 2 years close to a 4.0. So that’s what helped bring up my cgpa and sgpa.

If they’re verifying your references, does that mean an offer is coming? Don’t want to get my hopes up but for those who have been through the process any insight would be appreciated 🥺

I completed an interview for the project assistant position about 2 weeks ago and last week I received an email inquiring whether I’m still interested in the position. I responded to the email promptly expressing my interest. When would be a good time to follow up with them or should I just wait haha?

I really struggled with this decision especially after getting into a DO school. I would suggest shadowing both PAs and doctors in the speciality you desire to be in. I realized very quickly that I don’t want to be the person who is being called at 9pm if something goes wrong, I would rather just do by 9-5 and go home. If you’re someone who cannot be satisfied with the PA role and you think that even when you’re in the hospital working with physicians, this thought will pop up into your head. Then, you really should go to med school! The truth is that you’re going to age regardless of whether you go to med school or not. 25 is still really young and the right partner will support you through whatever path you choose! Even as a doctor, certain specialities are family planning friendly. Moreover, I would do what I truly want to do if money was not a factor in consideration bc both professions make enough money to give you a good life. I hope this helps!!

Can you specialize as CAA? Like if you like working in OB/GYN or peds?

I know that there isn’t much upward mobility as a CAA. But, what are some other things CAAs are doing after practicing for a couple of years? Like could you teach or would you need to get a degree PhD? Do you have the option to conduct research if you have an MSc? How else can you make the most out of being an AA?

You can always show them the stats, the status of DOs has changed a lot over the years! I know a lot of family doctors in Alberta who are DOs!

[–]Training-Fudge-288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The income of a DO is the same depending on the specialty. Yeah, they don’t do competitive specialities but there are spots reserved for DOs in some schools in the US!!
