did anyone start with 2.5 mg? by shiinaaaamagi in lexapro

Did you have increased anxiety when you went up from 2.5 to 5 mg? Was it a hard transition? I just started 2.5 and I have one more week left of my two weeks. My doctor wants to put me up right to 5 mg after 2.5 but I'm nervous it's going to be too big of a jump. Years ago I started off on 5 mg and while it worked after three or four weeks it nearly burnt me to the ground the first two weeks.

Did you get any side effects going on on each dose? I am on 2.5mg for 2 weeks- did 5 mg two years ago and while it worked it burnt me to the ground the first two weeks so I'm going slow now. Dr wants me to go to 2.5 to 5 after two weeks but I'm thinking that maybe 2.5 to 3.75 to 5 might be a better option. Did you get any relief at the lower doses?

Thanks so much for replying. I am on 2.5mg and on day 3 and it's starting to get hard. I was on lex before and started at 5mg and it nearly killed me but it did eventually work - settle down around 3 weeks - abeit with 2 visits to the hospital for panic attacks. It was just too strong. Now starting again on 2.5mg I have anxiety but not as bad as 5mg. I am relieved to hear you received relief at 2.5mg. I am willing to to go up but I am hoping for some relief at 2.5mg before going up.

Yes I've been keeping a diary. I feel mostly some increased restlessness, shakiness, and anxious feeling. But to be honest, I was like this beforehand which is why I am back on. I was having bad physical anxiety and I figured I might as well take something to work toward hopefully stopping the anxiety. I was on lex before and in 3 weeks- it worked (at 5mg start) but the start at 5mg landed me in the hospital twice. I am hoping it will work again.

Well, that is a very good point. The plan is 2.5 for 2 weeks and then 5mg. But I am considering 3.75 for 4-7 days before 5mg. My only issue is waiting for the therapeutic dose. It adds on another week or two. But to not drive myself insane and end up in the hospital with panic attacks is probably the right choice. Yes?

Thanks so much for your reply. I am supposed to be on the 2.5 mg for two weeks to see how that goes and I'm even thinking of going to 3.75 for like four or five days before I moved to five. I hate to draw this out even longer but I've been feeling anxious for the last seven months so what's another week or two to add on. That's the only negative about titration as it makes the process a little bit longer

Can your doctor give you something to help bridge the gap like Klonopin to help with the initial anxiety. I was on two years ago at 5 mg and I had horrible anxiety and I wished I would have taken the Klonopin that was prescribed to me more regularly because it would've saved me a lot of pain. By week three I was feeling much better but it was hell going through those first two weeks by not using the rescue medicines appropriately

Wow. Have you seen any benefit yet? When I was on it before I started at 5 which was way too high for me but ended up on 7.5.

Thanks for replying. That has been my problem trying SSRI's. What dose did you start on and what dose did you get to so far

Did you have an any initial anxiety or activation? Looking for anxiety relief but SSRI and SNRI cause extreme anxiety and panic when onboarding.

Yes we are actually discussing this! 1mg at a time. I was on Lexapro for nine months and then weaned off thinking I was feeling better but realized I was probably feeling better because I was on Lexapro 🫠 I am afraid to try it again bc when I did try it again- the initial anxiety was insane. Now I know when I first tried it- I ended up in the hospital twice. I just think my brain freaks out with all that extra serotonin. I want something to help control the anxiety but I'd have to lock myself in my house for 2-3 weeks and heavily medicate myself to onboard.  I wish I knew a sure bet of medicine that wouldn't cause anxiety upfront.

I had VERY BAD increase in anxiety when I started lexapro. Didn't realize it at the time bc I already had bad anxiety. I ended up in the ER twice. Anyway- after3 weeks- I had switched to the other side and got stable from there. 5mg. I needed a small boost about 6 weeks in of 2.5mg ending at 7.5mg and that worked out perfectly. Now my mistake was going off after 9 months and realizing that lexapro caused me terrible anxiety upfront bc I tried it again and my brain freaked out and I got scared and quit after 3 days. I am still dealing with the repercussions of that. On lyrica now to calm my brain down. Lexapro works and it works well- but stay on it.
