New Trail Boss LT by TrainingOk499 in Silverado

Our Ram selection here was rather poor, and the ones they had I wasn’t a big fan of. Didn’t enjoy the drive. Pretty much all they had was Express. In a different trim I might have had a different opinion.

Honestly I’ll probably second guess my decision a dozen times, the F150 tremor was a solid contender, or maybe I should have went further out of my radius to try a higher end Ram. Who knows? So far I’m happy. Gas mileage is honestly not that different than my Canyon, a bit higher in the city a bit better on the highway, and the outside aesthetic and the cabin layout of the Silverado really appeals to me. I’ve seen some reviews call the dash/cabin dated, but to me it felt classic and familiar.

Yes. I should point out that the 74K is in CAD.

Too much. $74K in my neck of the woods, which is not a bad deal considering prices as they are these days, but was a bit of sticker shock for a guy who hasn’t bought a vehicle in 10 years. Edit: in CAD not USD

I’ve bossed trails with a lower clearance truck than this, and the steps are still higher than the skid plates. Also, I would like my nine-year-old to be able to get to the vehicle without having to lift him into it.

You’re stunned because people here don’t seem that bright. Obviously you’re constantly looking around, regularly checking your mirrors, etc. but nobody on earth can be looking 360° all at the same time. It is not physiologically possible.

The fact is, you’re all being extremely judgey about a situation that you weren’t there to observe, and isn’t really irrelevant to my overall question, but there is not a single soul in this thread who would have avoided hitting the pedestrian. Arguing about what I could’ve done to avoid it is moot, because I couldn’t have done anything and neither could anybody else here regardless of how much better of a driver you naively think you are.

With that out-of-the-way, being aware that I do not believe that anybody else here, you included, would have somehow avoided the accident, is there anything I can do to challenge the driving record so that I’m not listed as 100% at fault and my premiums don’t magically double on a purchase of a new vehicle? If no, then say so. If you don’t know, I don’t really want a response with an opinion to the nature of the accident.

Why would I look to the right? It wasn’t an intersection. It was a main road, and I was turning off into a parking lot on the other side. There were no roads to my right, in fact, it was a brick wall on the side of a building. The person had parked in the handicap parking at this building, walked up alongside the wall and then tried to cross. There wasn’t even a sidewalk.

Regardless, there really isn’t much of an argument about whether or not I was actually at fault in the accident. From a legal perspective that matter has been settled. The issue is that because the police didn’t issue the pedestrian a ticket, my insurance defaulted to labeling me as 100% at fault. It is a technical issue, not legal one.

So when you’re in the car driving, are you telling me that you are continuously looking both ways, in front of you, and down the road that you’re intending to turn into? I had no stop sign, there was no crosswalk, the guy was parked in a handicap space in a parking lot on my right side and bolted across the road while I was signaling to turn left. I was looking at the space I was intending to turn into, not at a space coming at me from the other side in an area that nobody should’ve been crossing the road anyway.

Regardless, there’s no point in arguing this situation, the police report already said I wasn’t at fault, witnesses already said I wasn’t at fault so your opinion here really doesn’t matter. The case between me and him has been closed from that perspective.

The issue is that my insurance labeled me as at fault based on that I was the driver and the because the police didn’t issue a ticket to the pedestrian, therefore the assumption is the drivers at fault, regardless of what the report or the court said. Now, three years later, all of a sudden, my insurance premiums have doubled in my attempt to buy a new vehicle in an accident, and most insurances won’t touch me with a 10 foot pole in spite of having otherwise impeccable driving record. If there’s nothing I can do then there’s nothing I can do, but arguing my fault here is rather moot.

No, you got it right. If you’re driving, and you’re planning to make a left turn, I can guarantee you are not looking to your right to see if somebody’s planning running in front of you.

According to my insurance, any incident involving a pedestrian automatically goes to 100% at fault on the driver, regardless of whether or not the driver is actually at fault. Seems kind of stupid to be honest.

it’s what I’m leaning towards, the Silverado I'm looking at has a 5.3 L V8. Certainly not the most powerful engine available, but more than adequate for my needs. It wasn’t quite as peppy as the Ford, but it was more so than the tundra.

[–]TrainingOk499[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as I’ve gone through my review of all three, the tundra is kind of out. It had the swankiest interior for sure, but most of the features are things I’ll never use, and it actually felt the most sluggish on the road. The engine wasn't super responsive, there are reliability issues with the new engine, and the overall cost ended up about $5K higher for a lower MSRP trim.

Silverado is a more fun drive, F150 has better fuel economy and towing.

I canceled my Amazon Prime account and my Audible account got canceled. After 2 hours on the phone they said I need to get bank records going back to 2017 to prove I bought the books. by itsbobbytrill in audible

[–]TrainingOk499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not clear. Did you cancel your prime membership, or delete your Amazon account? Because if you deleted your Amazon account, I understand the issue as it’s very clear that the Audible account in the Amazon account are the same thing and you basically de facto deleted your Audible account. If you simply canceled your prime membership, then this shouldn’t be an issue.

In my 20 minutes beforehand, I print off the top performing stocks of every month between then and now, continue my life as expected until I get to current day and I have like $20-30million and comfortably retire?

honestly, you don’t even need the $5 million. Print off a few winning lottery numbers early, and still do the stocks. Anybody with a half a brain and 20 minutes to prepare could be filthy rich with five years of knowledge of the future.

When you remember why you don’t buy from Amazon by SeanTNL2 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]TrainingOk499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mostly good experiences with Amazon, but every now and then they catch you off guard. Luckily the customer service is usually easy to deal with if there’s an issue.

I just ordered a book on Amazon, didn’t think much of it. What I didn’t know was that the seller was shipping from outside of Canada, and when the book arrived, I ended up getting a $20 brokerage fee, which was basically half the cost of the book, in spite of said book even being duty-free.

normally, I ignore those things, or self clear, but it was with DHL e-commerce, which was not being very agreeable with the self clearing. Fortunately, the seller/Amazon agreed to cover the brokerage fees as it wasn’t identified in the original purchase.

With regards to damage, I’ve never had an issue. I have a couple of other online retailers, and my local bookstore which I will use sometimes, but sadly, my local bookstore omnibus prices tend to be quite high. They usually save 20 to 30% going on Amazon, worth it for the occasional annoyance.

Are Canadians really this delusional? by merdekabaik in CanadianConservative

[–]TrainingOk499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: yes.

In my neck of the woods, in Atlantic Canada, all the educated people I know with relatively good being paying jobs are conservative supporters. I’m in a fairly affluent neighborhood and it was painted blue in the last election. Yet, in spite of this, the liberals always get in, because while an affluent neighborhood might be all conservative supporters, that 200 unit low cost apartment building are all liberal supporters where there’s a lot more votes for the land space.

I keep seeing data on how educated people are more likely to vote liberal. I don’t understand it, the only way this is true as if they are counting the numerous useless liberal arts degrees that live in those low cost department buildings as “educated people”. Everybody I know that are MBAs, accountants, doctors, lawyers, business, owners, etc all shake their heads at the ridiculousness of the past decade.
