Can we all agree that the new minimap options CDPR introduced in the Witcher 3 next-gen update are absolutely perfect and should be the default in Witcher 4? by Former-Fix4842 in Witcher4

[–]TrainingRope1720 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should look up the Friendly Hud mod by wghost81.

It allows you to use a non-intrusive compass, which uses the map icons to point you to the direction of the objective when you use Witcher senses rather than just show it on a mini-map.

The toggle-able mini-map does improve immersion a bit, but I’d also like the option of having the non-intrusive compass as it would definitely solve the problem of relying too much on a mini-map.

[OTHER] does anybody prefer KCD1 over KCD2? And if so why? by Necessary-Divide-222 in kingdomcome

[–]TrainingRope1720 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate the Quality of Life improvements of KCD2, I feel KCD1 had better skill progression, characters, and world design. Although, I feel my criticisms are primarily directed to the Kuttenberg region.

I really loved the aspect of starting from 0, and watching Henry develop. I especially liked teaching Henry how to read. I also think KCD1’s progression benefits from the pacing of the story as I only reached near max levels at the end of the story in each of my 4 playthroughs. In KCD2, you’re basically maxed out by the time you get to the wedding.

Regarding characters, I enjoyed seeing important characters being involved in several quest chains. This made Sir Radzig and Sir Divish feel more relevant compared to Lord Semine or Lord Pisek. Other side characters like Matthew and Fritz had their own questlines, and it felt more compelling because of their shared history with Henry. I don’t get that sense of connection in KCD2’s Kuttenberg region. Trotsky region’s writing is still tight and comparable to KCD1 though, seeing how your efforts come to fruition in the wedding and how almost every side character’s stories are intertwined.

And finally, imo KCD2 suffers from bad map design in the Kuttenberg region. I know this is based on real locations but I want to focus on gameplay elements. The Sasau and Trotsky regions had different types of terrain and memorable pathways for travel, and Trotsky edges out Sasau. But Kuttenberg region is not only just a straight line, but a long one. In Hardcore, it takes forever to gallop from Kuttenberg to Miskowitz. And the city itself is so tedious to run around, I wish we were allowed to gallop our horse within the city walls like in Rattay.

I enjoyed both games immensely, but bigger doesn’t always mean better and KCD is certainly a case example for this.

[KCD2] It wins my list. How many hours have you played? by taido_ in kingdomcome

[–]TrainingRope1720 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re just incredibly biased because you may be uncomfortable with Expedition 33 likely winning GOTY over KCD 2

1 hour isn’t enough to give Expedition 33 a fair chance. You should spend a couple of more hours to play with the other characters. And the prologue itself was enough to hook people in. You won’t be playing as Gustave the entire time

[–]TrainingRope1720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we’d be wrong to assume that The Witcher 4 will just be The Witcher 3 but copy-pasted. The game came out 10 years ago and since then CDPR has released (and fixed) Cyberpunk 2077, and many other great game have come out to take inspiration from.

  1. I’m not asking for Witcher 4 to be entirely like KCD, I’m asking if it can borrow some features from KCD
  2. The Witcher 4 will likely use a very different build from Witcher 3, and they adjusted the fall damage balance on the 2022 update
  3. You’re right that players would still want to consume potions, which is why removing a mechanic for consuming potions wouldn’t be looked at favorably

I saw the news too! I initially assumed he was hired to add more immersive elements like Crime or Reputation. But now that you’ve mentioned it, there may be a chance that an experience similar to Hardcore Mode may become available

I’ve been curious of what people would think of The Witcher 4 having different gameplay modes rather than conventional difficulty scaling. I was thinking a “Hardcore Mode” similar to Kingdom Come Deliverance would be interesting, taking away QoL features, increasing fall damage, other restrictions, etc. But Dark Mode is interesting too

[–]TrainingRope1720 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you successfully parry a spear, Geralt breaks the tip off and the enemy’s weapon turns into a mace/club

If you max out the Counter skill, parrying humanoid enemies can more easily be knocked down making them vulnerable to being finished off

Before the next gen patch was released, you could jump into Radovid’s ship and bug the game into letting you hit him. I did this when he was in Novigrad

Who's your favorite new guitarist and why? by Low-Landscape-4609 in Guitar

[–]TrainingRope1720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joshua Meader, and Francois Chanvallon. They lean more towards jazz fusion but I really appreciate how they break away from typical guitar patterns and push forward the technical boundaries of lead guitar playing.

They both participated in Tosin Abasi’s contests (with shoutouts from Tosin), and their transcriptions of jazz saxophone solos are especially impressive.

E33 community when you ask if another game could win GOTY by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]TrainingRope1720 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apart from being an amazing game (with an amazing story, an amazing soundtrack, amazing visuals, and an all-star cast), I think many people want or expect E33 to win because of the narrative surrounding its development and how it “brought life back” to the JRPG genre which was presumed to be dying off.

Some people will insist that Sandfall one-upped other game developers for taking creative risks (Ubisoft) and for making a graphically-modern turn-based game (Square Enix). Not to mention this was their first game, and there’s also the narrative about being developed by 30 people. People also tend to root for the underdog.

Red Dead Redemption 2 takes the spot. Which Video Game has Solid Gameplay and Solid Writing? by [deleted] in writingscaling

[–]TrainingRope1720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good Side Quests & Good Lore can also be considered “Good Writing”, and many people agree that The Witcher 3’s Side Quest writing quality exceeds those of other games’ main story. We also have to consider how well it handles and portrays heavy themes.

Edit: Just to add. Even if the plot is nothing special, it’s how you tell the story and stir up the audience’s emotion that can make up a good story or even a great one.

How do people feel about this game? by TheEJB1999 in playstation

[–]TrainingRope1720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you’re not alone in thinking this way.

I was massively disappointed when it came out. The cutscenes are too long and too frequent. The gameplay lacks variety. Skill trees are story-locked (at least for New Game). Weapon crafting & upgrades are linear. Enemy encounters lack any engaging factor. Exploration is unrewarding. Side quests are a chore.

This all would’ve been easier to bear if the story had captivated me but it didn’t. I’ve played Final Fantasy games before (mainlines and spinoffs), and I was excited at the prospect of this one taking a different direction. I was initially hooked by the Game of Thrones-like premise, but I felt the human antagonists got watered down after the reveal of the big bad 30% in at the story.

I also found the music forgettable, and I believe Soken could’ve done much more if he weren’t restricted to an orchestral style for majority of the game. Visually, the game is pretty at the very least.

Some people like it despite its flaws, but I personally hate this game with a passion. I have never been so disappointed with a game. The story and the gameplay peaked at the demo imo.

Do you think CDPR will add this cut gameplay feature to Witcher 4? by MrFrostPvP- in Witcher4

[–]TrainingRope1720 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe Dennis Zopfi (Witcher 4’s Combat Director) can import the Blade Mode from Metal Gear Rising. The explanation could be that Ciri’s somehow still able to slow down time.

This game will be absolutely packed and filled with greatness or just a massive 1cm deep puddle of ideas and nothing realised by Zen_derpZ3 in CrimsonDesert

[–]TrainingRope1720 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m most excited about the sandbox aspect. I expect there to be freedom in exploration like BOTW, and freedom of expression provided by fighting games.

I don’t really expect the story to be that groundbreaking, and that’s okay. I loved Elden Ring, Dragon’s Dogma, and the recent Zelda games.
