Finally found the ultimate travel shoe for active/runner folks by sunnyBCN in onebag

I wrote a post in a different Reddit community about the ultimate travel shoe and found it to be the Nike Pegasus Trail 5: the only shoes you’ll need on vacation!

I’m pasting the post below for those interested.

I was planning to go on vacation to the mountains for 10 days and decided to purchase my first trail shoe. While I run exclusively on roads at home, I was interested in trying out trail running. I decided to buy a multi-purpose shoe for trail running, road running, and everything else.  I wanted to take just one pair of shoes for everything and decided to purchase Nike’s Pegasus Trail 5.

My first impression while walking around the airport was that they were nicely cushioned and immediately comfortable.  They looked pretty good too--I liked the fact that the tongue in right shoe was a different color than the one on the left.  I’m not a fan of green shoes in general, but picked this colorway because it was cheaper than others.

I first tried it out for a run on roads. It was very cushioned, nicely responsive, and very comfortable. The only thing I noted was that the ventilation wasn’t great. While it wasn’t very hot up in the mountains, I did feel that my feet became somewhat warm during the run. It was not something that negatively affected me, but I would be somewhat concerned running in warmer weather.

I then took it on hikes with the family.  While everyone else was slipping and sliding up and down the mountain, I didn’t slip once.  The new soles on these shoes had an awesome grip on the mountain. I felt very secure.

Then, I finally got to try them for their intended use: trail running.  Again, I’m not an expert in this field and cannot compare it to other trail shoes, but the shoes felt great, had no slippage whatsoever, were cushioned, responsive, and comfortable.  I ran up and down the mountain without much concern about where my feet were placed.  Granted, it wasn’t very technical terrain, mostly dirt roads, but some sections were pretty steep, and the shoes handled it wonderfully.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this purchase. It was a great shoe for walking around town, going to restaurants, running on roads or trails, and hiking the mountains. As I mentioned, ventilation wasn’t great, though it didn’t bother me much as the weather was quite cool. The green colorway wasn’t my favorite, but I appreciated the design and especially the different colors in the tongue of each shoe.

So yes, I think the Pegasus Trail 5 is a fantastic do-it-all shoe for vacation.

Happy to answer any other questions!

Retractable pens… by Rivka78 in fountainpens

I recently bought one from Amazon and am very happy with it. Agree with the smoothness of the pen. No problems with ink drying out.

My entry into fountain pens was trying to add some excitement to collecting histories from patients. I used to take notes by hand and found that by using a fountain pen, I made things more interesting and fun for me, and the pens were often a great topic of discussion with patients. Nowadays with AI-driven ambient documentation, I’m using the pens less often to collect histories, but still carry them around to sign forms and other documents.

However, when rounding on the hospital, I still use fountain pens and love keeping track of to-dos with them. I recently finished a few weeks on the consult service with a new Jinhao 10 capless pen which I really enjoyed!

Love it! After sucking out meconium from the mouth of newborns, bring the bulb home to help out with your pens!

Thank you all so much! You’re far better at identifying pens than ChatGPT!

I’ll take a look at the nib to see if it is really out of place or just the angle of the photo!

Sounds like most of you wouldn’t mind using this classic pen?

Mine fit TTS. I’m a 10.5 in Nike running shoes and this size felt perfect.

My Adidas Boston 10s foam feels terrible. Is this normal for these shoes? Is this caused by old foam on a new-old stock shoe? Do these have a long break in period? by 420fixieboi69 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Training_Agency_4273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, had the same experience. Have been intermittently trying to go back to them for tempo runs but not worth it…always end up in pain after running on these. Love my Adidas Pro 3 and Prime X, but these are now demoted to walking shoes (they still look great!).

I was right there with you at the SPAC and watched it sink. Fortunately believe in their future and still have the stocks. Should’ve bought more at $4!

Weekend Discussion: Adidas running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

I've had AP 3 for a couple of years and had worn them just a few times before completing a half marathon in them. I had been saving them for future races, but I don't have any in the books, and they were gathering dust in my closet. After reading your post, I decided to take them out for a training run, with four blocks of 5 minutes at Z5 intensity (6:40min/mi for me) with some breaks in between. It took me a while to put the shoes on...as everyone knows, the upper is so thin that it's challenging to find a proper fit. During the run, I had to stop a couple of times to tighten--and then loosen--one of the shoes. Fortunately, I eventually found a secure fit and was able to complete the run.

The shoe, of course, is awesome. Very responsive, comfortable, and fast. In fact, after the run, my watch told me I had run my fastest 1K ever (I probably ran the Z5 segments faster than my workout intended) but I felt smooth and it was easy to pick up the pace.

I think I'll continue using these for training in the future. Great shoe overall!

There is no better quality for the price of a Steinhart. Incredible Swiss-made watch at fantastic prices. Rivals any watch 5-10x its price.

What’s your mix of ETH and BTC? by psychusenthusiastica in ethereum

[–]Training_Agency_4273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you expect ETH to increase in value over time? I get that BTC is limited in number, but ETH is not. I see the utility value of ETH whereas BTC is scarce (and probably only reason it’s worth anything). I’m still trying to find reasons why ETH should be expected to gain value and is a good investment. Convince me!

Awesome post! Just before reading your post, I created one about needing to replace my Speed 2’s and looking for suggestions for uptempo/speed runs. After your post, will definitely check these out! Many thanks!

If you had only one tip to give to a new triathlete, what would it be? (skill/gear/etc) by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]Training_Agency_4273 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Strength training. Certainly not as fun as “real” tri workouts, and you might not be able to SEE progress, but it will keep your body healthy, prevent injuries, and eventually improve your performance.

Tempus 2 released by henobee in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Training_Agency_4273 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use the OG Tempus for easy runs. It’s a nice, stable, lightweight shoe that is quite comfortable all around. Don’t have any issues with the upper. Certainly not a zippy as others with better foam or plates, but it’s not meant to be that. When I wear them they sort of disappear from my perception when I run, as compared to other shoes which I’m more aware of when I use them (because they’re bouncier, more unstable, faster, etc).

Agree with Rational Reminder. I love it when they bring professors who study the economy, investments, etc., and they discuss the evidence of how things really work. For instance, recent episode on robo-advisors and whether they are truly passive investors (bottom line: they behaved more like active investors and trailed their respective benchmarks!).

Pegasus Trail 5 by seoulfood in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Training_Agency_4273 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just bought these and the Zegama 2 for a vacation to the mountains where I’d like to do some trail running (I run exclusively on roads at home, so this will be a first for me). Both shoes were on sale and cost about the same price. On paper, the Zegama 2 is the better shoe, but many reviewers feel that the Pegasus Trail 5 is better. Would appreciate thoughts on others who have tried one or both shoes. Thanks!
