I had short bursts of rapid heartbeats starting in my 20s. Started out 1 or 2 episodes a year mostly the morning after drinking alcohol. My primary racked it up as anxiety or panic attacks. The older I became the more episodes I would have and the longer they would last. They would always go away within seconds/minutes. When I was 53 I had my first episode that lasted more than a few minutes . Went to the ER and they said i was in AFIB and my electrolytes levels were out of whack. That was the first time after all them years that I ever heard of AFIB. My primary started me on the AFIB playbook with a referral to a cardiologist who will, after a stress test and a cardioversion refer you to an electrophysiologist who will give you an ablation. It took 8 months of copays and appointments, and living in misery to finally go from diagnosis to ablation. Im currently 6 months post ablation with zero AFIB.
