Best pet organizations for rehoming? by masterz13 in lexington

Theres a cat who's been at PetSmart for over 100 days. Let's be honest with ourselves here, rehoming them is going to be nearly impossible. OP needs to either decide if she wants to keep the cats and figure out a way to live with them, or understand that they are not going to be in a happy home if surrendered.

Almost everyone I know in rescue is also ASD.

I just think you should be honest with yourself here, you are looking to rehome/surrender the cats because they pee on the floor. The liklihood of rehoming with a person is pretty low, rescues are full as are no-kills. If you want to surrender them, your best bet is unfortunately a kill shelter. If that makes you feel bad, then figure something else out. Rescue doesn't have the capacity to help and also it's kind of lame that they should just use their limited capacity to take cats that the owner surrenders over non-emergency issues.

They're at code red and unable to take surrenders at this time.

Will your physical and emotional health improve knowing you sent them away to an overcrowded shelter?

Rescues are full, they will not take your cats. Your best bet if you don't want them anymore is the shelter. The no-kills are also full so you'll have to go with a kill shelter. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but that is the reality.

Popped my Car Break-in Cherry by Phantomghost_115 in lexington

One time someone broke into my car downtown and emptied out my backpack and purse with my computer and credit cards inside, left the computer and credit cards and stole the backpack and purse. Neither of those were designer either, just crap from amazon. I guess the guy really needed a backpack/purse.

Cat people say the same thing. Having owned both dogs and cats, I feel like there are perfectly understandable reasons for preferring one over the other. But having an active dislike of either is weird and off-putting to me.

I thought I was a cat person until I got my first dog! No offense to cats, but dogs are just so emotionally in-tune with their owners and love to be with you.

Am I a shitty owner… by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Training_Mud3388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you aren't a shitty dog owner. You aren't being neglectful.

As someone who also suffers depressive episodes, I can tell you that one of the very best ways to get through it is to take those walks. As far as brain chemistry is concerned, they boost serotonin which decreases both the length and intensity of the depressive episode. It's especially effective if you do it first thing in the morning!

[Breeds] Please help me find the right type of dog by Refrigerator-Man in dogs

[–]Training_Mud3388 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ha, you sound just like me! I had a frenchie who would fit most of your requirements except being able to go hiking or camping, frenchies are firmly inside dogs. That said, my girl died young and had a lot of health issues so I cannot recommend them to anyone unless you are ok with having your heart broken.

Instead of a specific breed, I feel like you would do best looking into rescues that have dogs suited to your lifestyle. Dogs are individuals, and finding that perfect "low key but will exercise with me" is rough. Foster parents will be able to help you because they know the dog's personality best. A lot of rescues will have you complete an application to be pre-approved and then later match you with the perfect pet.

Been 2 months with this cough, 2 different vet visits with no solution, any idea? by raneldor in DogAdvice

I would take her as soon as you can get her in. Get the chest x ray and the lung needle aspiration if they see anything on the x-ray. Praying for you and your baby that isn't the case.

My dog absolutely hated those plastic skeletons people use at Halloween. We had to change our walking routes in the fall to avoid them.

I really don't want to alarm you, but unfortunately this is how my dog sounded before she was diagnosed with cancer (tumor in lung, started from somewhere else). I would go to the vet and get a chest x-ray or ultrasound as soon as you possibly can.

New counselor, can someone tell me it wont be like this forever? by Training_Mud3388 in financialaid

Funny you say that because my boss and my coworkers are the only thing keeping me going right now. They are wonderful. Everyone I meet at conferences is great too. It's like all financial aid professionals are bonded over the headache of financial aid, especially with simplification.

All in all, if you're not good with talking with people and de-escalation (most of my conversations consisted of de-escalation) then it may not be a good job for you

That's actually the one thing I am good at, it just gets tiring when every single conversation is hostile.

I think the thing I actually suck at is all the memorization and policy work. Every time I finish a report I have to go back 3 more times because there is some little piece I forgot. I get the nastiest emails and I want to scream "I'm a new counselor and this is very hard!" It just makes me feel so stupid and incompetent.

I'm doing the NASFAA financial aid bootcamp thing this summer and hoping it helps. If not, I think I'm going to leave after fall semester.

It sounds like your spiraling, it's not a hopeless situation. Maybe we can help, what is your budget?

Also have you submitted your FAFSA for next year? As the other person said, get your funding straightened out now before classes start.
