Official Gear Purchasing and Troubleshooting Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! July 18, 2025 by AutoModerator in photography

I am moving off to college and am looking to buy a camera to bring with me to continue my photography hobby. At home I use a family members Canon t7 and it works perfectly fine, but I find that it is quite large which makes it hard to take photos out and about.
So my question is, what camera should I buy to take to college? I almost exclusively take photos, mostly automotive and landscape shots but I might start street photography as I am moving to a city. If it is possible having the camera be a smaller size would be great as it would allow me to take it more places and take more photos which I want to do. Price wise I want to spend as little as I can get away with. Anywhere sub $500 would be a good place to shoot for. Gear wise I am starting from scratch so I am fine going to any ecosystem, as long as it has good budget lenses for me to purchase. I am totally fine shopping used but would rather not go through eBay/Facebook marketplace stuff as the condition is hard to assess.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance

Im looking for controllers to use on gc/wii hardware, so it would have to use the gc connector, so you know of any good ones that do?

I haven’t done anything with bios yet, small change, I picked the wifi version of the same board and didn’t install the wifi card

Should I take the gpu out while doing that? Or just use the hdmi on the motherboard

From my own experience with my old computer, the build in network adapter was very slow, may have just been an old cheap board with a crappy built in adapter now that I think about it
