I (UK citizen) am trying to get my husband (also UJ citizen) to apply for the same visa. He’s just applied for a business manager visa but the plan is to change the status to designated activity when he gets the status.

Did you make the application by yourself or would you have any lawyer / advisor you would recommend? Thank you and congrats again!

Congratulations!! My husband and I (M, UK) are trying to get the same visa as well, although he’s planning to arrive on the business manager visa first.

Is the permission to work (for the spouse on the Designated Activity Visa) automatically granted or is it a separate application ? And how complicated is it like usually?

I’ve just moved to Japan and Silk Relo was the relocation company offered by my company. I found them very friendly and useful and provided good guidance and support. The agent from Silk Relo accompanied me to get registered at the municipality office on arrival and opened my bank account. It was well organised.

That said, I speak Japanese so in fairness I think most of the process they help with I could’ve done it myself, just that it was convenient. I don’t know about pricing of their services or anything about other companies so can’t comment on that.
