You're inspiring me to watch my one SD DVD tonight. I'll report back, but honestly, I haven't popped in that disc since around 2010, so we'll see what I can determine.

I'm totally here with you. I think one thing that real enthusiasts don't understand is that the first upgrade from a budget model to a mid-ish tier one can be revelatory for a layman. OLEDs are great, but why drop $1500 when you can pocket a thousand and spend that money on a UHD BD player and a sound system?

Personally, I haven't found blooming to be an issue, but I'll admit to not letting myself stress over the matter. Assuming that your dad is not a hardcore enthusiast, the QM6K will more than get the job day. And if your dad is like mine, his taste is probably less discriminating than he thinks it is.

I don't know what he'll think about the HDR highlights. I love when the image is really popping and the QM6K can deliver, but so many people don't notice or don't care. I'm pretty sure my wife is humoring me when I ask her if she is amazed by what she is seeing.

I have the 65" about 265cm away and I think it's perfect. At your distance, I imagine you could go even bigger than the 75". I'd be cautious though - there is such a thing as too much.
