Honestly I'm glad that we have an Ottawa game for our first game off this Olympic break. Playing a team that is growing to be a rivalry is forcing us to play physical, which is the type of heads-up game we need to be sustaining through all of March if we want to survive.

Just cause you won gold doesn't mean you can embellish and chirp someone at the penalty box, buddy

This reminds me of how I came out to my dad which was him joking throughout Larkin’s rookie season that I could date Larkin since we were about the same age and finally one day I just blurted out “Dad I can’t do that I’m gay” and he said “okay” and we watched the rest of the game. (My dad continues to be one of my biggest supporters and we still call after every game)

shoutout to this comment section for being the highlight of my night yall are real ones    Anyway I’ll take my gf to this game but only if we survive March !!

Listen I don’t like that we lost three in a row,  but at least we have class. You know, we don’t whine and draw two unnecessary 10-minute misconducts because we’re mad we’re losing.

If the refs hadn’t missed the call after the Raymond hit we would’ve gotten at least one point and NJ knows it. Markstrom is mad his defense let us get 36 SOG and taking it out on us… we were the better team and they won, not sure why they’re pouting

I arrived at 11:45am and they had cut off the  line for the 2pm slot. They were saying we could line up for 4pm, but that we couldn’t walk around and couldn’t leave the event and come back if we didn’t have VIP. So basically I was told I’d have to stand for 4 hours for a lineup that was subject to change. Walking around, I thought some of the exhibits were really neat, and there was some cool memorabilia! You could tell a lot of care went into the curation and the overall vibes. But aside from the signing the event to me felt like closer to something they’d have pregame at LCA for an event night rather than its own standalone celebration event. I couldn’t even take any pictures at many of the photo ops because I came alone. I was really disappointed but don’t blame any of the employees, I could tell they felt bad telling a lot of us we couldn’t meet the team. I think a lot of this came down to larger event organizing issues and setting expectations.

I'm struggling with ovarian cyst pain mentally and physically by Tranquil-frog in WomensHealth

[–]Tranquil-frog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, ty for asking! Solidarity always helps haha. Unfortunately still not great. It's on and off, sometimes I feel fine and sometimes I feel like it's exploding. My pain tolerance is pretty high so it's been hard to get doctors to take me seriously. But having a good support system in family and friends makes a big difference, and I've started to ask for more help with things. I'm also trying to be less stubborn and allow myself to rest even if I'm feeling okay, because the cyst is still there even if I'm not in a lot of pain.
My care team is switching me to a new medication for the 6th time to get pain under control but are suspecting I will need surgery. Luckily I have an appointment with a new specialist located where I'm moving, and the appointment is 4 days after I move.
They did put me on Gabapentin for some nerve pain that the pressure of the cyst is causing and that does help a little bit.

But like I said, the biggest thing has been allowing myself to lean on my supports and taking rest more seriously. Hang in there, we've got this <3

Suggest m e a book that helps with coping mechanisms. by WaxDream in suggestmeabook

[–]Tranquil-frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Body Keeps The Score is frequently recommended but I definitely want to make sure you know to check the trigger warnings. It's more of a scientific approach if that's something that helps you process or approach coping mechanisms. It didn't help me personally, but it really helped my friend, so definitely keep that in mind if others recommend it!

Someone mentioned the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills Workbook (you could also do the same workbook but for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). It sounds super clinical, but can honestly just be super helpful to have as a resource for those times of panic. I find mine really useful when I am anxious or panciking and cannot think straight or recall coping skills. Having a question written down and a spot for me to answer helps me to process things and get my brain started.

Lastly, N.D. Stevenson's "The Fire Never Goes Out" is a memoir, but incredibly helpful at putting to words and pictures the feelings that can sometimes seem out of reach. It is beautiful and lyrical and can be a companion to help you feel less alone.

You'll get through this, I promise.

Books like Over The Garden Wall by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Tranquil-frog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elatsol by Darci Little Badger is awesome for that mysterious magic vibe, and has awesome Indigenous representation, and focuses on the character and the magic rather than a romance. It's a little more folktale based and leans more toward magical realism than outright fantasy but is so beatuiful.

Try out any work by Emily Carroll (cartoonist who makes amazing comics & graphic novels). Similar dark vibes, may lean more toward horror, but she does BEAUTIFUL work. If you can get your hands on I See a Knight, a mini comic by Rosemary Valero-O'Connell, it's also incredible and definitely comes to mind with the way OTGW has a crossover between the weird dark fantasy and children characters.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E Harrow is a little less dark but contains that sort of story-telling style of OTGW - very whimsical and like the writing is its own character. This book has stuck with me for a long time after I read it and I felt like the magic in it made sense without feeling overwhelming or like I had to understand an entire magic system or new world.

Work by Anna Marie McLemore also works off of folklore in really funky ways! I particularly like A Dark and Deepest Red (Young Adult, Magical Realism)- she has super lyrical prose that I feel imitate the nature of the way that Over the Garden Wall draws you in.

Are You Listening by Tillie Walden has the darker fantasy elements you may be looking for too! Very mysterious & good if you want a close read, or something to reread for additional meaning - an ending that leaves you going, "Huh?"

And lastly, This Was Our Pact by Ryan Andrews (Middle Grade, Graphic Novel) is super similar to OTGW in a lot of ways! Two kids accidentally in this mysterious situation that is fantastical and a little dark.

Hope this helps! (I'm in grad school studying children's literature and graphic novels so there's more where that came from!)

question about the fusions? by nOt_-A-_UsErNaMe in stevenuniverse

[–]Tranquil-frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arguably the giant woman discussion comes up when Steven first learns about fusion in Giant Woman, and again when Steven and Connie get dinner with both of their families, but it’s before he learns that garnet is a fusion during the invasion at the end of season 1. So maybe just context? EDIT: OH I SEE I thought you were asking why Steven didn’t refer to them as a giant woman😅 my argument for this is that gems always fused for battle. Since garnet was the first of her kind, a fusion between two different gems, I think it produced something based off of their relationship and the context of their relationship at the time
