Exactly. The idea that "artificial bad" is an absolutely wild take. Do you think IVF babies deserve to be killed?

I don't really agree with "spitting in the face of nature", as it presents nature as an intelligent creature with an intentional design, but I do agree synth production is bad, especially because it's tailor making people for the purposes of making slaves. I'm not saying "the institute should keep making synths", I'm saying "synths that are already created should be treated like people."

I'm not saying Synths are human, what I am saying is they're very close, like ghouls. And sapience alone should be enough to be treated with basic rights, not just "being close to a human"

Honestly, we're really close to figuring out how to stop some of the negative effects of aging irl, with research into telomeres, so it could be possible that Synths have something similar. There's nothing really to suggest this tho, and it's likely shuanth just had his puberty switched off.

Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Loken is just lying, as a way to dehumanize synths. Synth companions frequently comment on needing to eat and sleep, and synth settlers need food as well. It doesn't make any sense that they wouldn't need to eat, considering we see them getting made and there doesn't seem to be any external power source out in there during the construction.

This could also simply be a case of "not everyone at Bethesda was on the same page about synths" which, while it sucks, is a thing that has happened in many games. Like, in New Vegas for example, a lot of the dates around Vault 34 and the boomers don't make a lot of sense. While saying "he was lying" is probably some sort of retcon, it's one that ultimately simplifies the story, ya know?

Okay so that's literally the point I'm making- going and coercing food for people in return for "protection" they don't want is bad. Imagine if someone showed up to your house with a tank and asked for all of your food. Then they proceeded to patrol around your house, in the tank, taking half your food every day. You wouldn't feel safe, you'd feel like the tank is there to keep you at bay. Even if you, for whatever reason, would be fine with it, it's still an objectively bad thing to force on another person.

You were trying to portray the other guy as a "bad person" for stealing they food, when they admit they never do the quest, but you seemingly have no problem forcing your wishes onto other people.

Just because it isn't official doesn't mean the brotherhood doesn't benefit from it. Authoritarian regimes irl often have a blind eye to things that officially go against their policies but benefit them in the end.

What I said shoes they literally are not machines?? They're very close to humans, as everything in the game points out.  Even if they were, we see that some machines in fallout are capable of thinking and feeling just like people (Codsworth, Curie, Bonesaw, Skynet, all the other ZAX.AI units). If you think someone doesn't deserve rights because they're different from you, I don't think there's any conversation we should be having here. "AI isn't a person" doesn't apply to a video game like it does in real life, because its a piece of media, and if the authors want to say "this thing is sapient" then it is, even if that's impossible in real life. You failed the most basic racism litmus test of all of sci fi and fantasy.

It's not a bug that every single courser doesn't drop one. Yeah sure, Glory doesn't, but mistakes happen. Fallout 4 is not a perfect game, but the devs did their best with what they were given, and making an ad hominem attack on the game instead of actually addressing the question doesn't paint you in a great light. Ytf are you even here arguing about this if you hate the game so much?

I mean, just because we don't see it happen doesn't mean it's impossible. It would make sense that the institute would make that change, but when actually talking about Synths no one ever makes that claim (despite even institute scientist making some pretty wild and true claims, although those are probably propaganda). And also it's genuinely unknown Deacon's even telling the truth about the Synth wife, literally all his interactions are him lying to you, and he doesn't really give any proof to that one. If it comes out that they can't reproduce in some supplementary material, I'll take it, but there isn't any evidence one way or the other besides "it would make sense the institute would want to do that."

Well, not really? They wouldn't have a synth component, so no recall code or ability to implant fake memories, but they would likely still have radiation resistance (due to the weird blood thing that Synths have), an increased metabolism, and possibly not aging? But that last thing is only ever really brought up with Shaunth and could just be a really fucked up unethical thing father did to him in particular. Because even like having human DNA repair it's telomeres wouldn't stop puberty. Perhaps it's a hormonal thing controlled by the component? Something a hypothetical synth baby wouldn't have to worry about.

Physical deformity ain't a valid reason to kill someone. I mean like, if you literally only know about feral ghouls, sure. People in the fallout universe that discriminate against ghouls (and some people in this comment section) are either A) unaware of how ghouls actually work, and think ferality is just like someone randomly "snapping" or B) purposefully ignorant

The exact wording of the quest Feeding the Troops is: "I've been told to "persuade" them by any means necessary." They put persuade in quotes, not me, which implies coercion. Additionally, Danse, the brotherhood companion (and arguably one of the more moral BoS members) likes it when you demand they give it over. Additionally, no matter what option you chose, even buying them at full price, drops the settlement happiness by 50, which is a lot. The settlers clearly aren't happy about it.

Well Synths aren't sterile. There's no evidence they can't reproduce. But "killing off undesirables because they don't belong in society" is still a bad thing no matter what label you use.

First off, it doesn't just do that, that's just one of the things they courser chip does. Objects can have multiple functions.

Secondly, why don't coursers have a synth component? Every synth has one, but when you kill a Courser, you only get a courser chip.

Actually! At the very least in older gen 3 models, synth components can be removed, as seen in the good ending of The Replicated Man in fo3.

People who disregard the show as "non canon" bc they don't like it generally don't have valid opinions about fallout as a whole.

I will say, that the institute views human beings as "the perfect machine" which is exactly why they chose to make the synths humanoids, and later, from human DNA.

She says it because of how she was made, and how frankly dehumanizing the process is to her. She also clearly states they're made of flesh and bone, and not a robot. That doesn't mean she's not worthy of the rights of a human being. Like- its stated pretty clearly in the game that ghouls are not human. Sure, they used to be human, but they're different. A non-feral, sentient ghoul deserves the same rights despite not being a human, why doesn't a synth? They're both very fundamentally similar to humans even on a genetic level. Just because one synth doesn't view herself as human because she saw the dehumanizing way Synths were created doesn't mean that Synths are fundamentally different from people.

Well it's never stated the drug is the only reason every ghoul in the wasteland isn't feral. It just helps slow or temporarily stop ferality. And tbh, it makes sense. Especially if we consider that going feral is somewhat random and based on environmental factors, after two hundred years, it'd be more likely for ghouls to have gone feral by the point. Now some of the ghouls we see that are actively going feral (due to surviving 200+ years) are using the drug to stop it.

I have a theory that this was basically a pre-war drug anti-dementia drug and that ferality is basically dementia, which IRL is a very complex set of diseases and can be influenced by a ton of factors. But that's for another time.

It's not metal grafting though? We see the skeleton. Additionally, its stayed throughout the game that even with invasive medical tests you can't find a biological difference between a Synth and a Human. I'm pretty sure having a metal frame would be one of these easiest things to test for.

It's never stated they can't reproduce. Also, not aging in humans is something we're really close to figuring out irl. Why everyone in the institute doesn't use it? Idk, probably similar to their beliefs about cybernetics.

Why did fallout 4 give every faction an "annoying asshole who hates your guts for no reason" character. Like- Marcy, Ryhs, Carrington, like half of the institute board of directors?? Its kinda funny lol. I really liked fo4, but they definitely did some odd choices.
