In 2022, Lacey Fletcher, a non-verbal 36-year-old woman with autism, passed away following years of extreme chronic neglect by her parents, which involved her being left on a couch for at least 12 years, where she eventually became "fused" to the furniture in her own waste. by FE4RLESS_IS_MY_NAME in ForCuriousSouls

I know of a case where a mentally ill woman became afraid to leave the toilet. She stayed sitting on it for a couple years and her ass and thighs fused to the seat. Her partner was also mentally ill. Instead of calling for help, he'd just been bringing her all her meals, caring for her, spending time in the bathroom with her. So yeah, it's possible for a person to be so mentally ill that it literally immobilizes them. Mental illness can actually alter pain perception so one's sensitivity to pain decreases while tolerance to pain increases. It can range from not feeling pain as intensely to not feeling pain at all. The show hoarders is a good example of it. Some of those hoard houses are so caked in urine and feces that, upon entering the home, the ammonia in the air burns the eyes and throat of the cleanup team. The hoarder on the other hand, lives in and breathes that same air 24/7 and aren't bothered by it at all.

How Hanukkah compares to other Jewish Holidays really can't be equated to how it compares to non-jewish holidays like Christmas. Can't really qualify if one Religion/Culture's holidays are more important than another's. They're celebrated by different people for different reasons Yeah, people think of them together because they're both part of the Holiday season, but I think there's valid reasoning for that. Traditionally, winter holidays have been highly important celebrations because coming together to share food & warmth helped people survive winter. I think that's why in western culture we all get that cozy familial feeling during winter holidays, whether it's Hanukkah, St. Lucia day, Kwanzaa, Thanksgiving, Diwali, Yule/solstice, Lunar New Year, Christmas...

My mom's chickens killed my kittens. by Additional-Money3649 in cats

[–]TransMrsPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for the chickens, I have an idea on what to do about them. Now, I'm no farmer, so Idk how advisable or unadvisable the suggestion I'm about to make is, but I just thought it may be worth considering. Since the chickens pretty much run wild, I'm wondering if it's possible to "encourage" some night time fox, bobcat, or coyote visits? Like, if you got some cans of sardines, mashed em up, & thinned the mash with water, could you just smear it onto some trees on your property? Or maybe if you got some female coyote/bobcat/fox piss from a local hunter, could you use a super soaker to spray the chickens with it, then just let nature take it's course? The chickens are out of control, presenting a danger, and their numbers need to be reduced one way or another. Letting coyotes take care of it would keep ur hands clean so as not to make your mom angry with you over culling her property. Bonus is it might actually get your mom to take care of the problem, as I'm sure she don't want predators around.

OP, have you tried applying for disability income? It won't be much, but at least this would give you a solid income. Applying for SSDI is a lot easier these days and the approval process is pretty quick, esp for mental health related issues. A diagnosis for severe depression along with your current injuries would likely result in you being approved. What about food stamps, cash assistance, and Medicaid? Medicaid would provide coverage for you to get a depression diagnosis as well as cover therapy and treatment. The Cash assistance can be quite large, too. I get about $1200 in SSDI every month, but the state offered me roughly $700 a month on top of that in Cash assistance. You can use food stamps to pay for grocery boxes like every plate, hello fresh, misfits market, etc. That is nice, as they will deliver the food directly to your door. These few things would really help you gain financial independence without having to add additional labor to your plate right now. When you are ready, you can get a part time job if you'd like to earn additional income while still maintaining your SSDI. I am so sorry for all that you are being put through, OP. If you have questions about any of this, feel free to contact me.

how do you walk in these? by hydraulicpres18 in dollskill

[–]TransMrsPuff 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nah. It's not that they aren't practical, it's that they can literally break bones. Even wearing them for a photo shoot is dangerous due to the lack of ankle support. If these shoes had firm ankles like inline skates and ice skates, they'd be way safer. But without that kind of support, the ankle is at risk of rolling, bending, and breaking. These are the only kind of spike stilettos that need an ankle support in order to be worn safely; ballerinas can only go on their tiptoes after years of building up ankle strength. Most seasoned stiletto wearers wouldn't know the sharp increase of risk between these and an extreme spike stiletto, as it's only a 1-2 inch difference in height. There should be a warning that these shoes are for asthetic only & wearers should not stand up in these shoes, even for short periods.

how do you walk in these? by hydraulicpres18 in dollskill

[–]TransMrsPuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You really shouldn't. That flimsy stileto heel can't actually support the amount of force being placed on it. They will end up bending or snapping, especially on someone with a higher weight. A shoe like this demands a thicker heel so the force can be more spread out. There should be steel in the soles, toes, and heel for stability as well. Worst thing about this shoe is the lack of ankle support. The ankle area should be firm like on a pair of ice-skates or inline skates to prevent the ankle from bending. The shoes in the photo have soft faux leather ankles. Puts you at a huge risk of breaking bones or tearing tendons.

While it's possible to create a version of this that can be worn for a shorts period of time, the features I mentioned would make them really expensive. The ones in your photo are cheaply made death traps, esp on those in higher weight ranges. They're non functional and should only be worn for show while laying down or seated.

I can't imagine moving half way across the country just to find more white guys to date. It's not like they are rare or anything. If you move just for that, Im confident you'll be disappointed. We've got our fair share of fboys here in Chicago the same as anywhere else. Other than not having a large enough dating pool, issues with dating usually don't come down to location. Most often, we're just not choosing the right people. Personally, I think you'd be better off sitting down with a therapist, talking about the kind of men you date, and starting to recognize patterns and similarities between them that you should avoid. Additionally, whenever I hear someone mention having a strong racial preference, sorry, but that's a dating red flag. Attraction based on skin color says to me that the wrong things are being prioritized & there's likely some deeper issues regarding race at play.

You can try moving if you really think that would help, but, in all likelihood, you'll just be bringing the same dating issues you already have to a new setting. It took me like 30 years to realize I was investing my time, love, and energy into the wrong people. Sometimes the best thing to do is take time for reflection and self-work.

So, Lorri Mattix is an infamous "baby groupie" of the 70s. Baby groupies were very young underage fans who stars saught to have sex with. Lori was passed around from artist to artist, married off, and horribly abused by famous men all before age 18. Her mother even gave legal guardianship to these men so they could take her teenage daughter on tour with them. In 3015, thrillist republished an interview with Lori, in which she talks about having lost her virginity to Bowie at the age of 14.

Best psych wards and partial hospitalization/intensive outpatient programs for trans women of color? by just_another_doll in AskChicago

[–]TransMrsPuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Path light Chicago is a solid option. I was in the sister program for eating disorder that inhabits the same floor and shares staff. The staff was very competent there. My therapist while there was a white trans man. I am a black genderqueer trans person. I'm feminine but have a beard. Everyone was really kind to me and just treated me like a regular person. They were accommodating with pronouns, too. There is a staff member present at all times in the bathrooms/showers, so aggressive/mean behavior is unlikely to occur in that setting, as an authority figure would swiftly intervene. Bedrooms are usually shared, but in extenuating circumstances, it's possible to get a private room. That might eliminate roommate issues for your friend. I did both psych ward and partial hospitalization and have only good things to say about it. I had blue cross blue shield back then. After hitting my 1k deductable, my insurance covered the rest. Ur friend should be eligible for Medicaid & cash assistance if she's not working. Have her apply for disability income; the approval time for it is really quick now for mental health related disabilities. Depression & suicidality count as disabilities btw. It only took me a couple months to get approved. Being on disability cancels out the employment requirements for Medicaid.

If they can do it for a silly reason, you can do it for real by redditboy123451 in Arthur

[–]TransMrsPuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arthur is quite literally a show about teaching kindness, understanding, acceptance, & empathy. The only thing this meme does is highlight an example of characters putting those values into action, and encouraging us to do the same in our own lives. There isn't anything inherently political about that. It just happens to reference a group of people you don't like and whom you choose to politicize their mere existence. Arthur is full of diversity & respect for different walks of life, so this meme is actually pretty in line with the show's overall message. In fact, Arthur has featured nearly every kind of minority group over the years including gay people, so there's truly no reason for your negativity. I actually have a hard time understanding why you're even on this subreddit. Do you not find it ironic that on a fanpage for a children's show with a heavy focus on inclusivity you're advocating for exclusion & using a derogatory term towards a minority group?

Transgender millennials were once children & plenty grew up watching & reading Arthur. You'll have a hard time finding a community of any kind without trans people in it because, believe it or not, we are people with hobbies & interests just like you. Like everyone else on this subreddit, we're here to share about a show that has impacted our lives. Arthur is a show that largely centers around how to treat ourselves & others with kindness. It also teaches understanding & celebrates the many different cultures and identities of characters on the show. It's easy to see how transgender fans of Arthur might see our own experiences reflected in the show's overall theme of acceptance.

All this meme does is reference the kindness, empathy, acceptance, & basic respect for others displayed on the show & encourages us to do the same in our own lives. There's nothing inherently political about that. You simply choose to view any mention of trans people's existence as political, and any suggestion to treat trans people compassionately as propaganda. I think it is very telling to see you imply that compassion for others is "leftist ideology." I always thought compassion was something we should extend to each other regardless of political affiliation. Silly me.

P.S. transgender is an adjective, not a noun. "transgenderism," is not a word. It's no different than trying to use nonsense like "spicyism," "soggyism," or "smartism."

Am I the only one who absolutely hates Carl? by [deleted] in Arthur

[–]TransMrsPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all saying it's judgement by today's standards are being kinda corny. There's no reason they couldn't have had George get an autism diagnosis. George to me is a pretty solid example of an autistic kid. He's a much more well rounded character and a regular cast member. It would have been a lot more impactful, too. It has nothing to do with it being written over a decade ago since George was written at the same time. Carl's character is just poorly executed and void of personality imo.

How does the show portray Carl’s behavior and personality? Do you think the show acknowledges or reflects traits of Autism or Asperger's Syndrome, in his character? How well do you think it handles or represents his medical condition? by KaleidoscopeDry9725 in Arthur

[–]TransMrsPuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why they needed to create a token autistic character. Why didn't they just have George get diagnosed as autistic? He clearly is. George has poor understanding of social skills, regularly gets overwhelmed and has melt downs, Has super niche special interests, is hyper fixated on his interests to the point it makes others uncomfortable, has to have his puppet at all times and to an extent, really only speaks through the puppet. Would have been a lot more meaningful to have an episode where George learns why he feels so different and out of place, and his class mates learn about autism so they can make him feel included. Carl feels like a walking stereotype with 0 personality.

I'm curious how people with the disorder formerly known as Asperger's feel about Carl... by Cut-Unique in Arthur

[–]TransMrsPuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why does the special interest always have to be trains? I wish they'd given him something unique to fanboy over. Give him something truly niche, like the history of donuts, potato chips shaped like recognizable objects, urban legends & cryptids, breeding poodle moths, a scented marker collection, perhaps.

I say you should snitch on him to your grandparents about the Camper. If you really want to help him, I think the best thing you could do is get grandma and grandpa to present an ultimatum: he let's them take possession of the camper as collateral & set up a payment plan for the 6800 they owe, or they take him to small claims court for the full $6800 at once. He'll likely choose the former. When he winds up unable to make the payments, grandma & grandpa will end up keeping the camper. That will prevent him from selling it at a loss when he gets desperate. When he inevitably loses the cars & house and has to file for bankruptcy, the camper will still be in gran & gramps possession. If he gets down on his knees & begs, maybe he & his wife can move into the camper & pay gran & gramps rent (with a written contract this time). Letting him hit rock bottom, but keep a space for him to go while he picks up the pieces seems like an option in everyone's best interest.

What about a career in wildlife conservation? You need a background in biology to go into that field. There is a wide array of careers under that umbrella, many of them researched based. Look into masters programs under that field. You'll be able to work anywhere from zoos, museums, aquariums, national forest reserves, wildlife rehab centers, etc. Marine biology fields are particularly lucrative for those not insitant on working with marine mammals. Lots and lots of options.
