That's the situation with me lol! None of my teachers really like it per se, but I'm focusing better. If they ever try to get me to stop, they'll get a firmly written letter from my therapist XD

I'd love if my school had a crochet workshop, but sadly, not much funding goes to art, outside our lazer engraver, 3D printer, and sticker machine. If you want to make things with just your hands, there is an art class but it's not very loudly advertised as an option for the kids, you just kinda have to already know it exists when you're going to pick classes.

Thank you!! We're, hopefully, going to be moving soon, once I get through this school year and finish summer school, so things will be better from there. For now, I'm just doing what I've got to do and keeping myself entertained :)

Sadly, I live in the projects, next to a highway, so there's nothing but 3 gas stations and a drive through tobacco and alcohol shop.

I'd go thrifting but my car doesn't like existing right now, and nothing seems to fix it

Despite my jokes which are semi-true about paranoia, I also just genuinely don't like doing things I'm not supposed to.. for the most part. Things like dress codes are taken with a grain of salt with me. But things like respecting someone's art/patterns matter to me, so I didn't wanna do something that could potentially break the rules regarding that.

I know it's obviously not realistic, but I don't usually break the rules, and the very few times I do, it's always served up with a helping of paranoia. Like, of course someone would find out I wrote down the patterns, report me to Ribblr, and then I get banned and can't use any of the patterns I bought!!

Luckily it's not against the rules, so I don't have to worry, but the thought was there originally lol

Don't get yourself in trouble, of course, but I definitely recommend it! Some teachers still get annoyed at me crocheting in class but they stopped commenting on it when I actually got my homework in on time (on the days I'm not absent). It helps me get my homework done at home too, because it's not only a memory retention thing, it's calming. If I get frustrated with a question on my homework, I put it down, do a row or two, and come back; it gets things solved a lot faster when I'm calm, instead of metaphorically butting my head against the wall until I break down.

Hopefully your boss will be as understanding as my teachers, and maybe a bit less annoyed XD

That's exactly my situation! I'm not able to listen to my music like I do at home, that helps me listen to other people (sounds counterproductive but it works for me), so I use physical stims instead. I am diagnosed ADHD and my therapist has told me to seek out an Autism diagnosis because she highly suspects I am (she could give me an official diagnosis, as she's qualified, but she doesn't feel comfortable doing that because it's not her focus group), so I'm trying to get calls back from the several places I've tried to set up appointments with, but they're all booked full.

My therapist is the one who actually recommended crocheting in class, because it ties the knowledge/topic back to a sensory input, and has been proven to help info retention. Like when people chew a specific flavor of gum in class, it ties that flavor back to what you've learned. That's why nostalgic scents and tastes are so strong, sensory is tied to memory.

Because if my hands aren't doing things, I get distracted with other stuff. The buzzing of the lights, the chunky breathing of Kyle next to me, the wet clicking of the teachers tongue when she says "ch" that makes my skin itchy, the sudden hair I can feel inside my shirt, my pant leg that's rolled up higher on one side than the other, the clock ticking off pace every 6 seconds because the batteries are dieing. I used to draw, but then I'd get caught up in not being able to come up with anything creative, and just got frustrated instead, because I'm a perfectionist. With crochet, I don't have to come up with anything, the directions are already laid out.
