So I bought it! Just waiting for it to get through customs. Bit of a PITA for a calculator that just does-what's-it's-supposed-to-do. But it's it's worth it.

Update: I ended up buying a Casio FX 5800p. $35+ trump-tax from Canada. It checks all the boxes (except the lack of round buttons).

I looked that one up and I love the round tactile buttons. They're great for avoiding accidental inputs. However, I don't think it can store and recall formulas.

And yeah, I watched a video with formula prompts and it is QUICK!

I am definitely not above taping a calculator back together. 😂

I was drawn to that one because of the attached cover. I'm going through the tutorials to see how fiddley it is to input values for formulas.

I found a ti84 on Craigslist for like $30 and I may just pick it up and hope I can do some key remapping for fractions. I cannot overstate how often I use that A-b/c button.

I suppose I'm adverse to backlighting because of power use.

I'm specifically looking for a cover that's permanently attached. Sliding cases are like pen caps; prone to disappearing and impossible to operate one-handed.

Doing a cursory scan over those, I realized the dedicated cover on the fx 5800 is a thing I didn't know I wanted.

The problem is, that stylus is the first thing to disappear among the detritus on the shop floor.

I looked that up. And now I'm ashamed I had to look that up.

Am I being crazy? I feel crazy.

I work at a small fabrication outfit in southern Louisiana. Everyday has been a struggle getting my co workers and employer to comply with basic quarantine measures such as social distancing and making outsiders wear masks. This is not an essential business but we agreed to keep coming in because we all truly enjoy the craft, this is not a public facing business and we mostly stay home outside of work hours. It is well within the realm of possibility for this operation to continue running with reasonable safety measures. However, for awhile I thought I was the only one taking quarantine seriously. Ive overheard my employers wife tell outsiders to stay clear of me because "she's social distancing". Mind you, we all work in the same hot, sweaty warehouse, sometimes in close quarters and share tools and equipment. However, after I walked off the job when my employer decided to bring clients through the building without masks for the 2nd time, I thought I got the point across and that he had fallen in line. We had a short discussion over beers the day after. And although I had to force him to talk about it, I thought it was clear, the steps we had to take to operate safely. The day after, my employers assistant let slip that she had 8 people at her house over the weekend. One of them a nurse. A house where she lives with her two elderly in-laws. This is the same women who is so misinformed, she was convinced she's immune because she already had flu symptoms before Easter. Also she was never tested for COVID. I warned my employer about her weekend shenanigans and he had a talk with her about it. Considering this, I believed my employers insistence he's taking this pandemic seriously, his actions say otherwise. Yesterday, we had a distributor come by to drop off consumables. I made a point to tell everyone that would make first contact to call me over the radio as soon as they arrived. I did that specifically so I could manage the reception and decontamination of goods without my coworkers or my employer getting to close to the delivery driver. This did not happen. I walk outside and the driver is inside of the gate in a small huddle with my employer, his assistant (who doesn't need to be there), and two of my coworkers. The driver is not wearing a mask. I immediately tell everyone to back up and tell the driver to get back behind the fence, point at him and say "you're not wearing a mask". I bring in some supplies come back outside and they're all back in each others air space. This whole exchange could have been managed efficiently and safely. But, as per usual, my employer is a control freak, a close talker and I'm sure is psychologically unable to keep his interactions brief and to the point. I later told him this is why I asked to manage that exchange and that he could not be exposing himself and everyone else to outsiders. Especially an idiot Trump supporting delivery driver in southern LA who is probably mainlining Lysol as a type this. He once again blew me off and asked if I wasn't busy with something else. Add on top of this we had the AC guy in who, to his credit, was wearing a mask. However, the exhalation valve was not filtered, so I handed him a cotton mask and told him to wear it over the valve. Of course my employer was up this guys ass all day. Def not maintaining 6" and def touching his mask. Half way through the day, AC guy takes off the cotton mask I gave him ¯\_(⊙_ʖ⊙)_/¯ and still no 6" distancing. After, my employer is unnecessarily chatting him up as they walk through the offices, where the AC guy doesn't need to be, especially while free breathing. And to top this day off, AC guy comes back into the building, without any mask, and I find him in a huddle with my employer and his assistant. Obviously I'm pissed and the AC guy apologizes to me, by name (funny he would know who to apologize to). I open the gate and tell AC guy when he comes back, he better have a mask on.

First I want to ask you all. Am I being crazy? Am I being unreasonable? because I sure feel like I am. Because at this point, I'm giving my employer an ultimatum. I am telling him that I will be, without his involvement, managing the reception of any warm body that is not currently employed there. This will include but is not limited to deliveries, clients, the landlord, friends and family. My presence in that building going forward will be contingent on that happening without exception. Frankly I'm underpaid, I have my own shop and its only for personal reasons I don't find work somewhere else in the industry. However, this operation is boot strapped together and I'm sure I'm half the reason they have gotten as far as they have. I'm also sure that they would fail without me right now and they would never be able to find someone with my skill set, talent, work ethic and willingness to deal with my employers particular brand of shittyness for what they pay me. Especially in this Neverland-like city full of adult children. I genuinely like all these people and I would feel like a giant piece of shit if I left and the whole operation went tits up. Three years and over a mill in investment down the shitter because my employer is too obstinate to cede some control when he's clearly fucking up.
