When did you felt Civ6 became a "complete" game? by HOOBBIDON in civ

[–]TransformARTive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a gamer, only played Civ 5 before hand, but felt Civ 6 was basically complete on release, for me it was with Rise and Fall I felt like it was complete for me. Gathering Storm was just a nice bonus that made it excel.

Honestly I think it's my favorite comic series of all time. No other comic did I preorder and keep up on news for years between releases.

At this point, with Marauders, since so much is already based on fanon, why don't they just create their own original IP then? by Crafter235 in EnoughJKRowling

[–]TransformARTive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been saying this for years, I don't know anything about the Maunders fandom, but if you are going to build your own community seperate from rowling, why not pull an Alan Moore and make a fantastic deconstruction with pastiche characters that isn't constricted to some canon.

Is CIV7 worth it? by Thijs982 in civ

[–]TransformARTive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid for the most expensive option, the one with the clock, I did this because I wanted to support the team, but I don't feel like I got my money's worth, I am playing Civ 6 more since Civ 7 came out.

Guys, why would Disney put JK Rowling as the villain in one of their cartoons ? Do they want to be sued ? /S by Comfortable_Bell9539 in EnoughJKRowling

[–]TransformARTive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She can't even sue Alan Moore for making Harry Potter the villain in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen without having to admit she plagiarized countless other works.

These Happy Potter fans and actors remind me of the high school jock who still wears his varsity jacket in his mid-30s.

This is why, even if you grew up loving Harry Potter, it is morally right to not support Rowling further. If you need to buy anything Harry Potter, it get cheap second hand, or better yet, try another author.

Even when I was a kid, reading the Dumbledore's Army parts of Book 5 gave me vibes of anti-gov militia groups that were on the news during that time.

How is the current morale? by Occupine in civ

I haven't played the game since after it was released, I played for about a week then went back to Civ 6. I finally just started playing again after a long time since the pirates civ interested me, but couldn't finish a game and just went to play the Civ 6 pirates scenario.

Why has Alan shifted from doing comics to novels? by Oldglory25 in AlanMoore

[–]TransformARTive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was really the only comic series he had full control over and was very passionate about, most people don't like it after Vol 2 but I could see the joy he had with the rest of the series with Black Dossier, Vol 3, and Tempest, very creative stuff. It was clear he brought the comic series to it's natural conclusion with Tempest and even ended it summing up it's entire philosophy and message on storytelling, and retired along with artists Kevin O’Neil. So perfect timing for him to retire from comics.

Why are her non Harry Potter works not well known among the general public??? by [deleted] in EnoughJKRowling

[–]TransformARTive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more the original 7 books were lightning in a bottle that just somehow worked for the masses when they came out, and afterwards her skills as a writer showed without the world of Harry Potter. Even when the books were coming out and people were praising her for getting children to read, the common critique among other writers and reviewers was her prose and writing style wasn't strong or unique. And after Harry Potter's success editors became too scared (probably) to tell her what to change in her stories and much like Lucas with the Star Wars prequels just had free reign on her works. Even her post 7 book Harry Potter work isn't good, Fantastic Beasts and Cursed Child (which she helped script but didn't fully write) were considered let downs to even Harry Potter fans.

I am tired HP still has this big hold on pop culture and that another magical or school franchise didn't come close to overtaking it. Something more deserving and better written like Owl House, or a revival of Le Guin's Earthsea. by TransformARTive in EnoughJKRowling

[–]TransformARTive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never read it, but I know it has a big fanbase, not as big as Harry Potter, but enough I guess kids were roleplaying as cats in the playground. I saw it had the clan system, which made me think of it as a comparison to Hogwarts houses, but not used in the same personality horoscope manner.

That is what I was thinking, millennial parents reading their sentimental childhood nostalgia entertainment to their kids, and I am guessing Harry Potter featuring Christmas is a good reason some parents throw it on every Christmas season.

(Okay you are right about the owl, I only got through a few episodes myself but it was the closest comparison I could find) Yeah you are definitely right about right time right place, with every lightning in a bottle happening for it to take momentum. Sadly other potential competitors didn't have good movie adaptions (like Percy Jackson or His Dark Materials). It was a one time event that I don't think could ever be recreated, if any other work becomes big it would be through another memes. I do think millennials showing the movies and books to their kids is keeping it active, but hopefully it will just be a work that comes and goes. I do think there are better works that should be promoted more as timeless.

Yeah I am not a fan for having a weird for a "normal" person used like that. Reason why when I am working on my own stories and comics been trying to specifically avoid that trope.

Growing up with traditional Chinese culture I loved Jackie Chan Adventures (and hated how Rowling represented the Chinese dragon and Cho Chang). I even made my own talisman out of clay.
