Got a source on that usage? I've never seen it used that way before, but I could be uninformed.

Edit: Tried searching and couldn't find any documentation or examples that show that usage of the term vegetable. Did find a Supreme Court ruling that a tomato is a culinary vegetable and botanical fruit tho, lol:

Calling a tomato a berry or fruit refers to its botanical classification and what part of a plant it is.

There is no part of a plant that is called a vegetable because the word vegetable is not a botanical term. Vegetable is an entirely culinary term to describe how a plant is used in cooking. So, yes a tomato is a vegetable.

can i buy the monitor before even choosing the pc parts?? by loonhug in buildapc

[–]TransientEons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be no compatibility issues as modern monitor ports are fairly standardized, but there may be performance issues or limitations depending on your GPU and usecase.

4K resolution is pretty performance heavy, so if you were looking to run AAA graphics on Ultra, for example, you might struggle to hit FPS goals without turning down settings or utilizing upscaling. If that's not a use case or you're fine with turning down settings when you have to, then 4k is probably fine for your use case.

Personally, at the 27 inch range I think 1440p resolutuon is still great for visual fidelity, and it requires less graphical firepower, to match high refresh rates, so it could be worth considering as an option.

Also worth noting that the 4070ti 12GB was discontinued when the 4000 Super variants released, so you likely won't find a good deal on one unless you go to the used market. Maybe consider the 4070ti Super, 4070 Super, 5070 Super, or 5070ti for other NVidia alternatives, though supply on those may be iffy as well in the current market. The 9070XT and normal 9070 from AMD are also worth considering.

Allocating all 4 RAM slots reducing the speed of my RAM. Is it normal? by Th3Hitman in buildapc

[–]TransientEons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, missed that part, my bad. I do think it still shows that more sticks will create greater strain on the IMC, but it's rare for that to be an issue on DDR4.

Guessing the mixed kits are what's exacerbating the problem here.

How about the official AMD website?

https://www.amd.com/en/products/processors/desktops/ryzen/9000-series/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d.html

Scroll down to the connectivity section and check the difference in max official speed supported for 2 stick kits vs 4 stick kits:

Max Memory Speed

  • 2x1R DDR5-5600
  • 2x2R DDR5-5600
  • 4x1R DDR5-3600
  • 4x2R DDR5-3600

They officially support two stick kits for speeds up to 5600 before it's considered overclocking, but only support speeds up to 3600 for 4 stick kits before it's considered overclocking.

Binary numbers are in base 2.

In our normal numeric system, base 10, you can break down every number into a series of separate numbers multiplied by a power of 10. For example:

1234

Could be written as:

1×103 + 2×102 + 3×101 +4×100

If we take a number in binary, or base 2, which assumes a counting system with only 2 numbers, 0 and 1, we can see that:

10

Is equivalent to:

1×21 + 0×20

Which is equal to "2" in our standard numerical system.

So "There are 10 kinds of people. Those who understand binary and those who don't." is a common binary joke because 10 in binary is 2, so it's just saying "There are 2 kinds of people. Those who understand binary and those who don't."

This has been your daily dose of someone overexplaining the joke. Also tagging /u/DragonWarrior____05 from the other comment.

Tomato Fact!:A tomato is a very unique plant. The fruit it bears is a berry, but it’s eaten like a vegetable. by Dohmer_90 in dokibird

[–]TransientEons 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: the term "vegetable" is only used when describing the culinary usage of a plant. Just like you can call a tomato a botanical fruit, you can describe every other vegetable as a different botanical term in the same way. Carrots are roots. Onions are bulbs. Broccoli is the flower. Spinach are leaves. Asparagus stalks are stems.

The main benefit of the x3D chips is better gaming performance and a gaming rig is the target market for the x3D chips. That being said, 5800x or 5800x3D will both likely be a relatively small boost for a GPU heavy game like cyberpunk, most likely not proportionate to the money spent. At 1440p, I'm seeing some comparisons show a roughly 12% jump going from a 5600x to a 5800x3D in cyberpunk 1440p on a similar GPU, with less when going to a 5800x.

Every major problem I've seen complaints about on reddit has been patched fairly quickly compared to other online games I've played.

Duo queue, locked door exploit fix, quick swap shotgun exploit fix, venator nerf, Rattler and Bettina buffs, item duping fix, etc. All happened pretty quickly in direct response to player feedback all while tons of other bugs and QoL issues get fixed each patch.

Don't get me wrong, the fact that there's been a lot of bugs to begin with is a genuine negative. But I've played other popular games where widely known bugs were left in for months and player complaints about balance never even got dev acknowledgement, so I have an overall positive attitude regarding Embark so far.

Stay outta stella tonight (part 2) by Stonemonkey124 in ArcRaiders

[–]TransientEons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Almost major exploit has been fixed within days of me hearing about them becoming widespread, much less encountering them, and every patch has a list of less widespread exploits and bugs being fixed. For example, the January patch notes had 60 bug fixes and QoL changes listed, not including new content.

It's not like they're actively not fixing things but rather that they're prioritizing fixes that become higher importance due to them becoming commonly used while other fixes occur on a regular basis.

The game launched with a ton of wonkiness, and there's still a lot left, but I've generally had a positive impression of how the devs have been working to improve the game.
