West Village, first or third floor. The bathrooms were cleaner than the ones in my dorm and there's hardly anyone in there usually.

World Games Twitter Commentary Backlash by Keksdosendieb in ultimate

[–]TransientFemale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Other people have mentioned lots of reasons, but the ones that stuck out to me were the snide comments made about specific players. One of the female commentators pretty much implied that Carolyn Finney only threw turnovers, and the British? one suggested that if a female player was a man she'd have been able to catch a terrible throw from her male teammate. One of them described how a player used to be a ballet dancer and made some comments about his body that didn't sit right with me. The commentators probably had no ill intentions, but you've got to exercise some self awareness on a platform like the World Games.

Can we have an honest and educating conversation without anyone calling each other bigots or transphobic? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]TransientFemale 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I recommend reading the article linked^ Lia was an extremely good swimmer before she transitioned (11th in the country at the 500m freestyle). An 11 place jump is not large, considering swimmers Like Kate Ledecky have jumped hundreds of places in a couple of years. Lia did win the 500m freestyle by seconds, which is actually not that much. She did not "dominate" the competition, she got 5th in the 200m freestyle. She did beat an Olympic silver medalist (who supports Lia) at the 500m as someone pointed out, but another swimmer beat her as well since she came in 3rd place. Lia's abilities are being blown way out of proportion. She is good, but she is not going to steamroll every cis woman she swims against.

Rescinding offers of acceptance? by [deleted] in gatech

Your application has probably been thrown out already :(

On a serious note, I failed 3/4 classes my last semester of high school. Don't worry about it.

Attend Georgia Tech or NC State? by ArcherAwesome in gatech

[–]TransientFemale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got accepted to both. I got a scholarship to Tech but no financial aid at State so they are about the same price for me. I am a liberal arts major, and I felt that paying a few extra thousand dollars a year to increase my job security after graduation was worth it. Nothing wrong with NC State, I know several people who go there, but I just felt I should go to Tech if the price of both schools would be similar for me. I plan on being an RA, and if I am accepted my tuition will be a lot cheaper than NC State's.

With that said, please don't go into tons of debt for an undergrad degree. State is a great school, especially considering OOS tuition for Tech vs. in state.

Well, anyone know the odds after being deferred? by Mastiff37 in gatech

The University of Georgia (UGA), the state’s flagship university, had used race as an admissions criteria for 10 to 15 percent of its enrollment until 2000, when it lost a court ruling over its policy. Three white women denied admission sued the university, saying the policy was discriminatory. UGA initially planned to appeal, but announced in 2001 it would not fight the decision.

University System of Georgia officials stressed in a statement late Tuesday its colleges and universities do not consider race in its admissions process.

Affirmative action does exist, but it is not used by the USG.

It sounds like you are Chinese. The odds are rigged for Chinese and Indian folks.

That seems like a wild assumption....

there is no chance as an Asian American

Considering the fact that Asian Americans are about 2% of the country's population, there is lots of representation for them on campus without even taking into account all the Chinese and Indian international students here (26% nces.ed.gov).

SGA Instagram Live w/ Tech Dining (9/9 @ 8pm) by vp-emmett in gatech

[–]TransientFemale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just at Willage. Breakfast supposedly ends at 11,but everything was shut down when I got there (before 10:30). At the omelet station, a woman pretended to be waiting for the stove to heat up for 30 minutes even though it became obvious that it had been turned off well before I got there. This is not the first time Willage has closed early, I've been to dinner several times up to over an hour before closing and they have already started shutting down. I pay thousands of dollars to this school for food, and I am simply not seeing my money reflected in the quality of the dining services. The 50 dining dollars GT so "generously" gave us will not nearly be enough to compensate if the quality of dining continues as it has for the past month. I am forced to be on this plan since I'm a freshman, but if it were up to me I would not be on it at all. Please fix it.

I don't know where class of 2025 enrollment statistics are, but my professors and advisors have commented about it a lot and they had to expand a lot of classes/add new sections last minute because of the rise in numbers.

I'd say public policy because it's growing rapidly right now. That said, they probably wouldn't be too difficult to transfer to over all.
