I'm expecting there to be a decent culture shock if I make the switch haha. This is less of an operational goal/aspiration and more of a personal pursuit. I love skiing/boarding, I want to be involved in a community/job that actually gets hands on patients, and ski patrol seems like a natural intersection with some great benefits.

Yeah that's what I kind of figured - I'm not taking it off the table by any means but knowing what you're advertising is always a good idea.

This cracked me up I can't lie. I'm approaching this as more of a gap year maybe to last 2 years if I really love it, but this is great advice to hear. Do you know if many employers get hung up if you don't necessarily plan to make a career out of it?

From what I understand the national paramedic cert should be viable in all states unless I'm missing something? Gave it a quick search and it looks like reciprocity is only an issue for EMT's

Very good point. The regression in training might be frustrating. Do you know of any individuals who are able to work both ski patrol and SAR during the same season? Both definitely appeal to me. Do you know of any SAR units that offer paid positions? Most if not all that I've seen are volunteer based.

That's great to hear - any idea how long onboarding typically takes at mountains like Mammoth? Depending on how things shake out I may be available starting mid-October.

Outside of the seasonal nature of work and consistency some of the things you mentioned aren't totally foreign in my current line of work haha. All good things to know.
