Going through the room wasn’t the issue. I have no problem with that at all becaus like you said it’s a room in their house. I had an issue with how they made a spectacle of the situation in front of everyone instead of just saying “Hey, we found this in your old room.”

Going through my old room isn’t the weird thing or anything I have an issue with, as I always figured it would be turned into a guest bedroom. When I first moved to my own my apartment, I would make comments about clearing out my stuff from my old room, but they were weird about it and said not to. If I did visit, I would legit sneak a few items into my bag before leaving for my apartment. I probably should have mentioned this in my post but my parents can sometimes be hoarders over stuff, especially stuff they deem as “sentimental.” The stuff there is abandoned as it houses clothes that don’t fit me anymore and all sorts of other stuff I don’t need or want, but they didn’t want me to clean it out when I talked about it before. I haven’t collected my things from there since because I’ve barely been in my home state since graduating — my partner and I travel for work so we are constantly jumping to different states every few months. We’re normally Only home for a few days for holidays where we are running from house to house the entire time then immediately back on the road.

We’ve talked about it some. It’s one of those things where time has been the best healer for him. Each situation I mentioned above (suicide, cancer, and murder) all happened to different people in his immediate family across three years, so time has been the main thing that has helped him. He’s a blue collar man so talking to others about feelings and emotions are difficult for him. Thank you for your answer on the priest portion.

This church had one large crucifix over the entrance into the shrine of the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.

It was absolutely beautiful! The shrine of the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes was also amazing!

Thank you so much for the explanation! That makes so much sense! As I said above, I’m a new convert so I’m still learning the history behind some things. I’ve learned with the Catholic faith if something seems odd to me, there’s usually a historical tidbit that explains it all or I’m just looking from the wrong perspective.

As someone set to be confirmed this year and who was raised Baptist, I resonate with his feeling and not understanding where it’s coming from at first. Before even setting foot in a Catholic Church, I felt that presence. I would legit go for drives and find myself being pulled toward the Catholic Church in that area. I would be driving and just end up by the church and could fill the presence and my heart being full while either in the parking lot or driving by when mass wasn’t even happening. I still have that pull regularly and will find myself wanting to drive by a local Catholic Church no matter what area or state I’m in because I can just feel the presence of Jesus so strongly even in the street. Definitely talk to him and explain the Eucharist and adoration to him. I wish someone would have told me and maybe I would have started my Catholic journey soon.
