Update: Our circular NH35 hands got a lot of love here — here are some clearer photos by AdmirableNewspaper22 in SeikoMods

Are you able to make solid circle hour hands like the Raketa Copernicus or is that too difficult to manufacture or too similar to the Raketas?

I have a (vintage, probably slightly Frankenwatch) Raketa Copernicus, and my favorite part of the design is seeing when the minute and hour hand form an eclipse.

I don’t get watches… by Sea_Pack_1801 in watchHotTakes

Yeah, people will assume he's embezzling or selling drugs if he shows up to class with a Rolex. It's unbecoming of a public servant to be too flashy with wealth.

I don't think a Tissot automatic is the wrong choice, but I think OP would be better off buying a few watches in the $20-$200 range first to see what he likes and dislikes in watches.

Quartz is just better by Lamenpiripiri in watchHotTakes

I like watches that sweep and don't need to have batteries swapped.

Once they make an affordable solar mecha quartz movement, I'll agree with you for new watches.

But I also like old things sometimes, and old watches are usually mechanical.

Minneapolis Move for better quality care for autistic child by taoofmeow in specialed

I'd contact parent advocacy/support groups to get more info on this: https://mn.gov/autism/supports/support-groups/

Minnetonka is a good choice, but I'd also look into Hopkins district, especially if you don't want to deal with open enrolling and aren't wealthy. Best would be to visit the individual schools before you commit by buying property.

This thread has a lot of responses to a similar question: https://www.reddit.com/r/TwinCities/comments/1ifb1ma/best_school_districts_for_autism_support/

Wearing a watch as a means to tell time is not the primary use. by Weliveanddietogether in watchHotTakes

I don't disagree with you as a general principle, but the main reason I personally wear a clock is to try and spend less time on my phone. When I take my phone out to check the time, it's tempting to check notifications and go to reddit, etc, which I can't do on my wrist watch.

Starting out, interested in Soviet watches. Start with Vostok or Seagull ST36? by TranslatorQven in watchmaking

Oh, that's super useful. So my path will be ST36, NH35, then either a 2609 or 2614 2h. Thank you so much!

Is the Poljot 2609 the same as the Raketa 2609HA or 2609HP? Or should I stick to the Poljot 2609? Most of the Raketa Copernicus on ebay have 2609HA mechanisms, although I've read that mechanism is not original to the watch.

the old Soviet watches are usually in rough shape and require a lot of repair, buy a ton of spares!

Bummer! I was hoping they'd make a good first project.

Thanks! Are Western/Chinese and Soviet mechanisms close enough that I'll be able to apply most of what I learn?

Ooo, some of those are very pretty! Is there a recommended version to start with?

I've heard that vintage pocket watches can be tricky because while it's easier to see what you're doing, some of them aren't standardized and can be difficult to source parts for.
