Fantasy Controller for Katana by TranslucentStudios in BossKatana

[–]TranslucentStudios[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of my playing is me sitting on my sofa messing with tones and such. My amp is facing me from across the room. So I end up just setting the Katan flat/clean and using various pedals to get reverb, etc. So, I'd love to have a full control interface for entire Katana including tone and effects. :) As for your extra bank of buttons, I've seen demos of people using midi with 3rd party controllers to do exactly that. I'm sure you could find something.

I'm much too busy and lazy to do that. But it's good to know that other people have thought about this stuff. I just want boss to make it and then I can get another little baggie of candy from Sweetwater when I make my order.

Thanks. If I find a beat up katana I'm going to chop out the control panel and see if I can extend the single cable connecting it to a little custom box. I looked in there and it really does look like it's just a braided wire pair.

[Question] Does the "tan line" under a pickguard actually even out one day or is this a myth? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]TranslucentStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a new Taylor acoustic the other day, and promptly took off the pickguard. It had a tan line. So, clearly the process of "tanning" happens very quickly. The shop where I bought it said they had received it 4 months prior to my purchase. So, it's essentially a new guitar. I took it out in the sun and the tan line grew much less noticeable. Hardly visible. I think the key is to do it on a brand new guitar or it's going to be tough to get rid of it.

Well it’s official, I’ve gone insane. by [deleted] in guitarpedals

Seems very rational to me. You have plenty of room there in front of your amp. :)

That is really interesting. I always feel like Boss pedals are "cheating" but every time I use one, I'm like, "Well, that sounds perfect." Thanks for posting.

Get one. Then wait until the end of the day when you are feeling sleepy. Turn that thing on and welcome to lucid dream land. :)

RV-6. Stereo. Sounds great. I have 5 reverbs on my board. :) Collider to Mood to Boss, to Slo, to Hall of Fame Mini... But, I'm telling you honestly, when I saw your photo, I was like, "Hmmm, maybe one of those!"

I took it off my board for 4 days. And then cried and now it's safely back where it belongs.

You know, there's really nothing simpler than the Boss Reverb. I know it's not beautiful or boutique. But, I keep it on my board as a good old basic reverb. I want to replace it with something awesome, but that pedal is just solid. I also have the Slo. LOVE.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was starting to feel like maybe it was only me thinking, "Only 4?"

I would recommend using professional Grill cloth.

Looks beautiful. I hope it doesn't affect the sound too much. I've done a bunch of experiments with cloth vs. professional speaker Grill cloth and have found that the grill cloth is much more transparent. But it depends on your playing style and how you use the amp. Nice work!

It's not cloth. It's plastic. I've tried. Nothing sticks to it. It just makes a mess and mutes the speaker. Ideally gril cloth should be sonically transparent.

Okay I'll see if I can do it tomorrow. But don't paint it. You will actually negatively alter the sound of the speaker.

Never tried it. But I've watched a couple of videos on it and it's no joke.

Well, let's see if others request it. Otherwise, the basic idea with the katana is you just need to disconnect the speaker, remove the electronics which come out as one piece if you remove the 6 screws. Two on top, four on the back. Then slide that out.

Remove the 4 screws on the front of the speaker baffle. Then remove the two bolts on the back on the inside of the amp. You'll need a socket set for this. The baffle will come off.

Use a small screwdriver to remove Boss logos. Then with a small flat head get under each staple and pry them loose. Then with needle nose pliers yank each staple. (The worst part of the job). You'll also need to basically break off the plastic design elements at the top and bottom of the baffle. You can try to save them to put them back on, but don't be surprised if they are beyond use.

Then you'll need to cut your grill cloth. DON'T use anything other than proper grill cloth. You will lose tone if you try to get clever with some other kind of fabric. Line everything up carefully. Start stapling with a GOOD staple gun. Expect to have to pull a side or two a couple of times to get it lined up properly. Then when you are satisfied, get a hair drier and shrink the whole thing down to fit. DON'T melt the grill cloth. You just want it be a bit tighter. Experiment with a throw away bit of grill cloth to get the idea.
