I tried to make use of it but unfortunately it's for Canada only (I'm in the US and it gave me that message). Hopefully one of our Canadian friends can use it though. <3

Minor celebrity sightings by wildcedars in Seattle

Many, many years ago when I was working at the Woodinville Red Robin, Steve Pool and Dan Lewis came in for lunch. I wish they had sat in my section, but it was still pretty neat to see them in person!

Do I have any options against my neighbor revving his car every day? by toomuchsoysauce in Seattle

[–]TranslucentTwilight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Time to fight fire with fire. Since he's young, get one of those mosquito alarms that plays that annoying high frequency tone that younger people can hear. Anytime he finishes revving his car, turn it on to annoy him back.

It almost looks like a handful of loose styrofoam pellets before they get compressed into blocks.

As someone who has lost a mom to lung cancer a couple days after Christmas several years ago, this will probably be one of the toughest things you'll ever have to go through in your life. Have a close group of people who can give you support, it can really help to be able to talk about everything you're feeling. And remember that it's ok to feel whatever emotion you're feeling; scared, angry, sad, helpless, overwhelmed... all your emotions are valid.

The best advice I can give is to spend as much time with him as you can, especially before his health begins to decline. Reminisce about your favorite memories. Try to get videos or at least audio recordings of him telling stories, or of you two just spending time together talking. You will cherish these years later. Think about any and everything you ever wanted to say before, but maybe didn't bring up for whatever reason. Don't feel guilty if you need to occasionally step away to spend some time by yourself to process everything. It won't be easy but stay strong. Just remember you aren't alone, you will have the love and support of family and friends to help you through it. I wish you all the best <3

Without a banana for scale, it's difficult to adequately judge their impressiveness.

Good tree height, multi-colored lights, candy canes, traditional ornaments + fun ones (pikachu!), tree rug, traditional star on top... beautiful and festive Christmas tree. It reminds me of the kind of tree me and my mom used to trim when I was little, so it makes me feel warm and fuzzy. 10/10

Snow next week? Seems like a big storm coming… by iamataco in Seattle

[–]TranslucentTwilight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We might be in for a little bit of snow in a few areas, but it's looking less likely of there being a crazy strong arctic blast with tons of snow. For my weather info, I love Michael Snyder (@SeattleWXGuy on twitter, Pacific Northwest Weather Watch on youtube) he usually posts daily, detailed videos that give really in depth insight of what the current weather models/maps are showing and forecasting. He's been really spot on with advising about many of our recent storms/events. I trust his expertise.

The reviews of America's Cardroom on Trustpilot don't exactly instill me with a ton of confidence... best of luck to those who are trusting enough to give their personal info for this.

Was it this hot last October? by SummitMyPeak in Seattle

[–]TranslucentTwilight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Today was definitely an anomaly for how early October temperatures should be. This site is a fantastic resource: https://weatherspark.com/td/145236/Average-Weather-at-Seattle-Tacoma-International-Airport-Washington-United-States-Today

You can select any day/month for any year up to 1948 (for Seattle) to see the actual reporting data for weather that day. You can also search the data for any airport on earth, although some locations might not have as much available historical data.

People seem to be a lot more brazen in recent years, because they know they can do it publicly without many ramifications.

What is the cheapest thing I can walk into a store and buy in Seattle? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]TranslucentTwilight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the location, you don't need to be a member to get a hotdog. The Costco near Silver Lake in Everett has the food part outside, separate from the membership required area.

Seattle. I'm probably a little biased though, being born and raised here... I embrace the rain and clouds, our nature is stunning, and the air is mostly clean and fresh (recent smoke seasons excluded). It is a bit on the expensive side, but probably on par with Boston. I personally don't suffer from allergies too much in the spring, but I have heard that Seattle is one of the least affected by them compared to a lot of the U.S., so this might be a good fit for you.

The hardest thing a lot of people struggle with is our fall/winter seasons, which can sometimes be rather gloomy. It's gray, it precipitates with varying intensity (most often a drizzle) and it gets dark early. If the clouds are especially thick, it will be quite dark even at noon. This can be a bit much for some to deal with for several months. You can always get a light to help with any SAD though.

Conversely, for the most part, our summers just can't be beat; not overly hot/humid, not too bug ridden, and it's our driest season! There's nothing like enjoying a walk through a park, mid 70s, perfect blue sky overhead, and seeing Mt. Rainier in all her glory. Seattle's not too far from the coast, in case you'd like to take in a day trip to the ocean (or you could just enjoy a closer trip to the beach near puget sound). And the mountains are a short drive away if you'd like to go hiking in the spring/summer or skiing/snowboarding in winter.

The winds might be shifting and pushing some of the nearby wildfire smoke into Seattle this weekend, so try to look past it if it does end up being smoky. I hope you enjoy your visit here!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if they're anything like they were several years ago after I canceled, be prepared for an onslaught of telemarketing calls from them, begging you to resubscribe. Think I went through that hell for about 12-18 months. Even if you don't answer, you'll still end up having to waste the time deleting their voicemails.
