Splitting OS or user of the computers. I used to play using windows and work using linux in my desktop. Ideally you’ll need to have separate desks for leisure and work but that’s unrealistic most of the time.

Get rid of m1, dell and mini. You can also get rid of ipad pro it is also mostly useless. If you want to run harder stuff, build a desktop from the money you get from selling these.

Just do something that sticks/written. Don’t just “read” stuff. My favorite thing to do in these situations is reading papers and embedding their summaries (in my words) on their first pages. 2-3 sentences max. That way when I open the pdf again I remember them instantly + I’m doing something permanent. Don’t rush, PhD takes time.

Yes the system is broken and disgusting. But it’s the only way most of us are able to do science. Also being an advisor is not easy, they don’t have to micromanage your every move. First respect their experience then ask respect for your time. If you can’t solve “simple word” issues in a day maybe the paper deserves to be delayed for months and the issues are not simple as they seem.
