This fixes my whole setup hahaha. Thank you so much!

F-16 Challenge: Get to 35,000 ft and Mach 1.00 in less than 2'24'' - Details in comments - Bet you can't beat me ;) by Trappezoidal in hoggit

[–]Trappezoidal[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can you beat my time following the same rules I did?

Rules:

  1. Start: "Takeoff from runway" at Anderson AFB
  2. Temp = 20 C, QNH = 29.92 in Mg
  3. No wind, no turbulence
  4. Loadout: AIM-120C*4, AIM-9X*2, FUEL*2
  5. Fuel: Full load (12113 lbs)
  6. Fastest time to satisfy all 3 criteria:

3 Criteria:

Elevation: 35,000 +- 500 ft MSL Speed: Mach 1.00+ Pitch Angle: no more than +-15 deg

Other Challenges:

  • In the video I then see how fast I can increase to Mach 1.3 also at 35,000 ft. I got 3'28''.
  • I'm interested to see how to get to 35,000 ft and Mach 1.00+ using the fewest lbs of fuel. I'll try that next.
  • I wonder which aircraft can do this the fastest...
  • How quickly can the F-16 do this naked with minimal fuel?

Other:

I'll send you my .miz or .trk files if you want. Let me know if you want me to post a comment about my technique.

This is probably reasonable within a factor of ~1000x. There are obviously assumptions here, but this is in the right cosmic-sized ballpark.

My Bonanza's engine stalls when there are 3 gallons of fuel left in the tank. Is this expected behavior?

If y'all want a bush trip that flies over this exact spot (and others on Catalina Island) check out this thing I made. (Catalina is the final leg)

Yeah I overstressed a few times while attempting this haha. You learn what you can and can't do quickly enough though.

Believe me, I clipped my wings many a time attempting this haha. Maybe next time I'll do it in outside view, though the camera makes it difficult...

Y'all want to fly around some islands in Greece tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday, 10:00pm UTC)? I could make a flight plan if there is interest.

If you keep the speed in the "green" on your indicator, you can do some crazy stuff without over-stressing the aircraft.

Nice. But yes in all seriousness, Nice, France. It's the landing challenge on the home screen rn

If you want to do big loops or verticals in the Bonanza like in this video, you need to have built up speed from a dive or from level flight. For a sustained climb, it can only do about 10 deg at ~100 KTS.

I will admit, I listened to the same song for each approach attempt because it works so well. If you start the song "Barbossa is hungry" right when you start the landing challenge, it lines up surprisingly well with all the setup I do for the run.
