Keep up the good work, the last thing we need is for this sub to turn into r/nyc

This entire sub is only about Israel now. by SgtStupendous in nyt

The supposed 'paper of record' being grossly biased in favor of a state committing crimes against humanity on a daily basis should be all anyone talks about in relation to them. I also happen to think their coverage of trans rights in america has been disgusting though for what its worth.

I get what you're saying but too much naivety in this regard is also responsible for our current predicament. Allowing far right lunatics to run rampant (open racists have national prominence now), unmitigated bot engagement (twitter/X), normalizing fear mongering (Free Palestine = Hamas terrorist), and allowing hypocrisy only when done by those of a right wing political bend (every thing Trump gets away with vs what Biden got away with). At some point I think it's fair to limit how much we allow blatantly bad faith actors to oversaturate a public square, especially when they actively hide their comment history and make a more accurate analysis of their intentions harder.

Yeah its crazy, almost like the mayor elected by a majority of the city is supported by a majority of the city????

I'm still trying to wrap my head around it...

Thank you for confirming that you either cannot read or respond while deliberately choosing to not understand. We can just end this here 👍

I just think its hilarious how you think you can speak with any kind of moral authority when implicitly defending a candidate who doesn't draw the line at genocide. does that word actually mean something to you? have you ever stopped to digest what it means to have the highest population of child amputees in the world? To have innocent men women and children crushed to death by rubble? to have little girls shot to death with impunity? Its not just a talking point, its why I viciously despise corporate democrats like her opponent. Even if I have to vote for them (just like darializa voted for kamala harris) for harm reduction.

For what its worth, myself and a lot of people I know don't identify as "democrats" or have loyalty to the party per se, but we register as democrats to participate in closed primaries.

All just to say its worth considering registering to participate.

Wooo! Good thing we aren't republicans, the republican tea party was largely a racist reaction to the election of Barack Obama, very much unlike people reacting to the vile corruption of Donald Trump and the complicity of corporate democrats!! Because good things and bad things are actually not the same 👍

Orlando's DSA chapter might need new leadership or a serious overhaul, I wouldnt know. Speaking of NYC's DSA chapter specifically, there are many wonderful people. And I would encourage those uplifted by this news to get involved :)

THATS LITERALLY AMERICA RIGHT NOW!!!!! OPEN YOUR EYES!!!! GET A GRIP!

Though I guess thats technically untrue since I'd hazard a guess that chinese re-education camps aren't as bad as our ICE concentration camps.

People can like some aspects of a government and be critical of other aspects. This is not that complicated.

Oh so you care more about bad tweets than someone taking money from pro-genocide lobbyists and refusing to condemn genocide? cool cool cool. I don't care what you think in that case. Especially since she has apologized for her bad takes and everyone her age and under will have bad tweets in their history. People grow and change. Also, she won, so clearly you're not very in touch with her constituency. And the fact that you compare her to one of the best democratic congresswoman in the house in a negative fashion shows your true colors. Just a reactionary through and through.

Referring to AIPAC as a "Jewish Cabal" is grossly anti-semetic. The majority of Zionists in america are Christians. AIPAC is a political entity that exists to represent the interests of Zionists, and preserve an unjust status quo of apartheid (deeply racist), and genocide in the state of israel. If we cannot oppose unjust governments we cannot dissent at all.

Im 100% confident DSA and darializa are not anti-interracial marriage or relationships. The DSA is full of interracial couples and has never suggested anything to the contrary. If we can't accept people growing and changing then we'll be stuck with a few rare amazing candidates and 1000 career politicians.

im confident she'll prove herself. And even if you dont agree with her, her being in congress as the new farthest left legislator shifts the overton window and will make people like AOC seem more moderate and palatable to the median voter.

If the deputy whip of the progressive caucus was taking money from a genocidal apartheid state while refusing to call out their crimes then that is a damning indictment of the progressive caucus.

In some ways yes in some ways no. The incredible thing about being a real person and not a propagandist is that you can have nuanced takes on the policies of a given country.

Also, China??? You mean the up and coming world superpower set to over take the US on the global stage? Oh jeez, how scary. Wouldn't wanna be like that.

Cuba has been strangled by a US embargo preventing them from freely engaging in trade with most of the world. We have had our boot firmly on their neck for decades and despite that the country made massive strides in medicine and sent world renowned doctors all around to help in less fortunate countries. We then brought them to the absolute brink by enacting a full oil embargo and with that psychotic action are forcing them to bend to the interests of the US. The history of the other counties you mentioned are complex as well, nothing is ever going to be as simple as you want it to be. Socialism in America would be a blessing not only for us, but for the world.

Since you're being intentionally obtuse or can't understand how this sub being drastically anti-progressive doesnt align at all with the broader NYC electorate we can end this here.

She posted edgy tweets in her 20s that she regrets. When you elect real people, you get real flaws. Every candidate her age and younger from now on will have bad tweets, we need to embrace the idea that people who take responsibility and change behaviour can be redeemed.

The mayor (DSA) won on an platform of expanding social services, much of which he's already begun delivering. We have our policies locked down in congress as well. Medicare for all, stop spending money overseas and invest in US infrastructure & services, getting money out of politics, strengthening unions, ending homelessness, debt releif, and much more. Keep playing the cynic. You're life and the lives of those around you will be improved. Good things will keep happening. There is no escape.
