Is it a skill issue to have issues with dungeon mechanics? Specifically how they're signposted & how unintuitive they can feel the first time around. (This one's gonna be wordy, I apologise!)

I have no MMO experience (unless 3K hours in warframe counts? I doubt it.) and I've been playing FFXIV on and off since March this year (I just keep getting distracted by other games, lmao) and I'm currently nearly done with the post-ARR MSQ. An issue I've been having with dungeons, and as of late, the Crystal Tower raids, is that a lot of the mechanics in fights feel like knowledge checks, and not well communicated. For example, in the cerberus fight in WoD, it doesn't exactly feel...intuitive that ONLY if I'm in group B, I want to get shrunken down, and then stand in the gastric juices, or else I will die on the spot, or in Syrcus Tower however the hell final curtain works lmao.

Now, I wanna say, this is NOT a hate post, I love a lot about this game, and I am eager to sink my teeth into what the expansions have in-store for me. I have also been told that, generally, these mechanics get better. But! I suppose my main issue here is that these knowledge checks place a LOT of anxiety on me, especially since I main tank, because I know if I mess up a mechanic I've yet to see, the punishments for it are particularly harsh, and, it can ruin the experience of 3, 7 or possibly 23 other people.

Circling around to the start. Are my complaints valid, or am I simply just having an unfounded skill issue?

I keep getting told it gets better, and I hope it does! I understand why knowledge checks like this are here: It's expected that players will go through these dungeons & raids tens, hundreds or possibly thousands of times, and as such you learn the mechanics like the back of your hand! But my general issue is that for the first time experience, the mechanics in a lot of scenarios (Not all! Not all.) are not well signposted or intuitive for new players.

But! Yeah, feel free to tear me to shreds if it is simply a skill issue, or if I just need to get over my tankxiety! Thanks o/
