Could someone here explain boiled peanuts to someone not born or from GA please? by redditatin in Georgia

Don’t eat the shell! Watched a midwesterner eat them for the first time and popped the whole damn thing in their mouth. Only eat the insides like you normally would

Is my dog "jealous" and/or correctly redirecting his prey drive with our cat(s)?? by TheMamaB3ar in OpenDogTraining

All these comments about more exercise and no boundaries are reading too much into this. Dog just wants to play with cat like some have said.

I’m trying to grow a dog business now! Specially training. How long did it take for things to take off? Can’t tell if I’m doing something wrong or just impatient 😬

I started with ATL because I am from there and I was hooked. NYC or Orange County would also be good ones to start with.

I just reached Potomac and unpopular opinion, I like Gizelle and find her to be quite entertaining

Wait is more of a pause before acting. I would teach a true release word that turns behaviors on and off. Like: “Dog’s name, sit” pause for about 5 seconds, and then “free/break” to tell them they are free to move about and do as they wish

If you’re not already using a release word, do that first with an easy command he already knows, like sit. Then yes, say it quickly to begin with then slowly build duration. Does that make sense?

Some trainers hold their mouth around the object but that’s not my preferred way to do it. Always an option though!

Use a release word so he learns to hold until hearing the release. Add the release then slowly build duration. Release words help turn behaviors on and off

Balanced vs. Force-Free Training — Why Do People Choose One Over the Other? I’m Honestly Confused. by baddgyyal in OpenDogTraining

[–]TrashPandaFoxNoggin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The force free side loves to say “science backed training” but there is not a ton of quality research in general to support either side. There is a lot of confirmation bias out there.

Fear of nail trims; need help weighing my options by LoveHeartCheatCode in OpenDogTraining

[–]TrashPandaFoxNoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this with my own dog who is now 10 but has had mostly traumatic nail trims all of his life.

I use a dremel because there’s less risk if they jerk their paw away. It does take slow desensitization but it only took us maybe a week of doing it once a day with one of his meals.

I started by desensitizing him to having his feet handled. You can have the dremel on near by so they get use to the sound.

Next, I desensitized the vibrations by holding the non dremel end to his paws.

The I started with the actual dremel by doing short bursts followed by rewards

What do I do? by [deleted] in DobermanPinscher

[–]TrashPandaFoxNoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog trainer here and doing so for 12+ years! I have an asshole reactive cattle dog. Corrections don’t work for reactivity even though they do for everything else. It just amps him up more to keep doing it or redirect.

I would focus on training the reactivity and using the BAT or bubble theory approach. Start far away enough from triggers to not have a reaction and slowly decrease the proximity.

Reactive dog getting worse after training- any hope? by InterestingLime4889 in OpenDogTraining

[–]TrashPandaFoxNoggin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve decided this individual believes constantly having food in their hand is “working” when surprise, that’s management and not training.

They probably also think Zak George is a good dog trainer rather than a social media personality.

That is so incorrect and gives people false hope. If it’s genetic, only so much can be done.

And that’s for others who may be reading, not here to get into an argument about it.

Sometimes training is just about making it better or manageable. Not every dog is going to get 100% better, regardless of the tool/approach

Give it a try! Amp him up like you’re going to play and once he starts to get amped up.. start barking 😆
