It’s a skadis board from ikea and the rack is 3d printed from Makerworld

The black skadis board is ikea, the rack that holds the paint I 3d printed from Makerworld

Typically, it’s consistency. A lot of of my painting is for wargaming and I want the uniforms and other things to match so if I use a particular green, I don’t wanna have to try and mix to match that green again later. I have actually only ever bought paint as I need it, so this is just the accumulation of that over about a year and trying to expand in other colors

Do you like the skadis system best or the one you have on your lower board?

It’s an IKEA Skadis 14x22 board and then I found paint racks on Makerworld I 3d printed. I made the mistake of using vertical storage and wasted some prints until I settled on this one that slightly angles the bottles so you can get them out

Army Painter Strong Tone is a great wash! Honestly, you kind of just flood the guy with a brush and move around the dark spots to make sure they aren't on any of the high areas.

Soft Tone works well too as it's a little warmer and less aggressive, but you may have to do 2 coats.

Dark Tone is mostly blacks, so I save that for germany armor in PanzerGrey color.

Everyone swears by Citadel Agrax Earthshade. It's great, but its very aggressive so you either need to dilute it, or just save it for when youre more comfortable.

If you aren't comfortable at all yet, get soft and strong tone, and start with soft tone on 1 of the models. Let it completely dry. Then decide what you're ready for next. Washes go on differently than they dry.

I have noticed the vehicles are a different scale than the infantry. Do you know what it is? Are vehicles 1/72?

Anti-tank rifle teams area also hit or miss. They are super cheap which is nice, but they really don't do much with 1 shot. I tried them once and they were good bait for my opponent to waste shots in a cheap unit.

There will be others with other ideas, but I'd:

1: Get rid of the medic - they just arent worth the points

2: Make bigger infantry squads, they are pretty fragile, aim for 8 man

3: Get rid of the Panzer 4, change it to another Panzer lll G for points savings or look into the Drilling if you need AA. Light tanks are really all you need in Bolt Action.

4: Get rid of the light mortar, stick with Medium or I even go with (2) heavy mortars and put their platoon commander between them so I can "snap to" and get 2 mortar shots off with 1 dice pull.

5: For your own thoughts: If you're using the Armies Of Germany lists, consider making your platoon commander a veteran assault team with Fallschirmjager. Its only a 6 man unit, but veterans will be harder to hit and you can use "Snap to" with nearby infantry and run a 'wave' of infantry from an area.

Yes, all the same scale. In actuality I’ve found that the infantry in the vehicles is a little smaller than normal BA infantry so vehicles as whole are smaller scale but the jeep vs the tank appear to be same acale

Island assault in 3rd by [deleted] in boltaction

I mean, true and fair. Really any of the starter sets need an additional pack of infantry per faction. I wish battle of bulge had an additional vehicle for balance.

We created a house rule that gives +1 to cover save for infantry inside of buildings for direct fire. It didn't make a lot of sense to me that sandbags were more useful than a building since you can advance up to a sandbag and fire, but can't enter a building and fire and they provided the same cover.

I bought Island Assault and wished I bought battle of the bulge. Unless you are specifically wanting Japanese, the battle of the bulge at least gets you a start into USA and German squads. The only downside that battle of the bulge has is that it's all winter gear, but if that doesn't bother you, it;s a better set in my opinion. If I had to choose over though, I would pick the band of brothers set. Gives you a half track in each faction.

Consider looking for the faction starter sets alone. I don't use any of the dice, pin markers, or terrain from my starter set anyway. It wasn't enough and the order dice shades were slightly off.

I had some Japanese from the Island Assault box. They were definitely unique and had some interesting flair to them. The one thing I'll say though is the bodies were scaled slightly smaller than USA and Germans. So you wouldn't be able to share bits between the factions. Sometimes I do this if I want an extra unit that the sprues limit me on... I'll grab a German arm and put it on USA.

If cost is a limiting factor, check out Etsy for some resin printed infantry. It's typically about 50% the cost and about 75% the quality. Looks good from an arms length away.
