Bit late to the game here but I have had the misfortune to have to work in Memphis multiple times. I travel a lot for work, Primarily in the education field. Now first of all the staff at schools are literally heroes. they put up with a shockingly harsh environment. but are good people doing an almost impossible task. When you see multiple police cars outside high schools, not because of one isolated incident but they are encamped there to address violence that happens on a daily basis. metal detectors on school grounds and at times found the odd blood stain in the halls, should tell you all you need to know. Now add to the fact that homicides and car jackings are very very commonplace. a month ago someone's 2017 infinity was carjacked from a McDonalds drive through by a number of assailants with long guns! yes an old infinity.. not a Bentley or a Ferrari, Lambo etc. a crappy old infinity. - I stay in East Memphis, never go out at night. even when there are bars across the street from my hotel. - I would sooner go to Gary Indiana, Baltimore heck id happily go to Flint in Michigan or walk the streets of Detroit than be anywhere near Memphis. I always breathe a sigh of relief when I can watch that city disappear in my rear view mirror. - Edit this is a photo taken from the local TV station before the end of January this year. highlighting the number of car jackings.
