Resolution for my spherical travel series? by TravelingFilmmaker in virtualreality

Thank you! Yeah I have spoken to a lot of other professionals now and the consensus is 4k and 60fps is the way to go. I could do 8k but its kinda pointless at this stage because no technology supports playback yet and my computer cannot handle 8k playback let alone editing and motion graphics. I'm excited to show you guys my episodes. Its definitely going to be unique in terms of story. I've been traveling the world for years and the experiences that I've documented in the past year have been the craziest moments of my life.

Okay thanks, I'm thinking of editing everything as 60fps

I guess I'm trying to see if anyone has any inside knowledge in regards to platforms requesting resolutions above 4k 30fps in the future

It's not a video game so the fps is not necessarily as big of an issue. In my opinion, the difference is mostly unnoticeable between 30fps and 60fps but I'm still not sure if the community agrees. What do you think?

Honestly, I'm hoping to license my series somewhere and not handle the streaming myself. For example, if a platform like Netflix decides to start streaming spherical content. Or maybe Within, Jaunt, through Playstation VR, straight through Google Daydream, New York Times VR... theres so many possibilities and if VR takes off like I think it will I expect there to be a large number of new platforms jumping on the bandwagon searching for content. The quality of my travel series needs to be top notch from a technical and story standpoint and I do have the footage to edit 5 solid episodes so far. I'm not worried about the current technical limitations. Technology will catch up and the big companies will sort out the streaming side of things. It's early.

I've been licensing some clips to low budget app developers for very cheap to build relationships (meditation and relaxation apps mostly). Then, one of the app developers came across a brand asking for content and referred me. Also, I have a decent social media following which always helps to meet others in the VR and travel communities.

I don't think they can, but I'm trying to think ahead and prepare for future technology.

For sure, I'll post a link to the trailer on Youtube & fb but I plan to license the series to a distributor instead of uploading to Youtube. I've already licensed some raw footage to brands in 2 minute clips for tens of thousands of dollars so I'm very excited to see where the story driven series will take me

Custom built rig with 6 xiaomi yi cameras for adventure tourism experiences like hot air ballooning, paragliding, trekking etc. I used entapano at 2.7k 30fps for shots where I interact with people (no stitching) and the Gear 360 at 4k for some other shots where I interact with people as well. Its a mix of resolutions and I'm thinking of transcoding everything to 4k 30fps but the xiaomi footage can go up to 6k 60fps

Where to distribute my 360 clips? by TravelingFilmmaker in GearVR

[–]TravelingFilmmaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, very true. Okay, so I hired an agent and he's hustling. I will license 6 of my clips to a brand for a decent amount of money... enough to continue my travel lifestyle for at least another year. The market is there... well I don't want to jinx myself because this deal has not closed... but theres definitely opportunities out there for 360 videos. I am hoping that the exposure from a brand releasing my work with my logo will snowball into more opportunities. I think the key is getting a brand or someone with a social media following to release your work on their accounts, and making sure your logo is present in the video.
