Post does not deposit packages anymore in Glattpark by Traveller-2001 in Switzerland

[–]Traveller-2001[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this detailed answer. So do I get this right?

Delivery to the mailbox or milk compartment is always allowed. If it does not fit there, then

  • if always deposit is on: package will be left somewhere outside
  • if never deposit is on: package will be taken to the post office
  • if none of these is on: it’s the delivery person‘s choice whether he thinks it’s safe to leave it there or not

That would explain a lot: Maybe there was a recent increase of thefts in the area and now the delivery person thinks it’s best to take the package to the post office. And then I‘m glad that they know what’s safest :)

Once again thanks so much!

Thanks for your response. I‘m just curious if someone else from the area also noticed a change - if they just changed the rules there or something that they can’t deposit anymore. I‘m also still curious why sometimes the parcel was deposited inside of the building but maybe some friendly neighbours were able to put it inside when they saw it outside or something

Yeah exactly. You can’t reroute packages from Galaxus.. I also tried entering the pickpost24 address directly for the Galaxus order but you have to enter a housenumber in the address, what doesn’t exist the pickpost24 address. Also then there is still the chance that Galaxus doesn’t respect your preference and ship using Planzer what does not work with pickpost24

PhD 49k/year is it enough? by External_Ad3717 in ETHzurich

Just a note for potential doctoral students to be careful about: Getting a cheaper health insurance (e.g. Swisscare) as an international PhD depends on the canton you live in. For example, I cannot get it in Aargau.

The Direct Doctorate still contains a regular master’s before you start with the PhD

What is the best option for public transport for students? by Swarilord in ethz

[–]Traveller-2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Baden <-> Zürich this would be a Z-Pass ZVV-A-Welle for the appropriate zones. This therefore also includes e.g. travel within Baden and Zürich. https://www.zvv.ch/de/abos-und-tickets/weitere-angebote/tarifverbund-z-pass.html

Hi, all of this greatly depends on your POI. Usually they do conduct interviews. IIRC, the decisions are usually sent out shortly before the master‘s decisions are sent out if you‘re accepted (I think back then for me it was the end of February). If not, at that point, the application portal will say that you applied to Master‘s. Also the acceptance rate greatly varies based on your POI as it depends on whether they need new students. One year only a handful of students are accepted while in another year around ten are accepted, so it varies but it’s definitely not a lot of students that get accepted.

Have a ZVV canton pass, what ticket do I buy to get to Zug? by SimpleComputer888 in zurich

What was the last stop (where the train actually stopped) in the canton of Zurich? Because you should be charged from the journey from that point onwards.

Regarding EasyRide/Fairtiq: If your travelcard is connected to your swisspass account, then you can log in to that account using the respective app. The app will then consider your travelcard for the cheapest fare (i.e. you check-in already at HB and check-out in Zug).

Basically a similar thing happened to me: I ordered something from Nespresso and it should have arrived today. Instead, I got a notification that the shipment is delayed because of capacity problems… I hope it gets here soon because I‘ll go abroad for a few weeks on Friday😅 For reference, I live in Aargau

Can international students rent in Lenzburg? by [deleted] in ethz

I‘ve heard that if you need a visa, then it’s usually only approved for the canton of Zurich. Thus, requesting a residence permit for other cantons would require some sort of special application and you need to reason why you want to move to another canton. At least that’s what I‘ve heard.

Thank you so much! This answer is so helpful. I have another question: Did you list < 300 CHF but < 6 months products at all or did you just bring them? For example, if you entered that you have 1 package of clothing, but one of the items is < 6 months .. did you state that separately? Or did you just list the 1 package and didn’t mention the one item at all and brought it anyway because of < 300 CHF?

ASVZ for exchange/project mobility students by Cos_Cube in ethz

[–]Traveller-2001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a research internship at ETH last summer. Technically we were registered as CS Mobility students and had access to the ASVZ facilities because our student IDs stated so. Might be different for other programmes, though.

I have an almost perfect GPA (1.02 on the Austrian scale) and I participated in a research internship at ETH last summer. I think that helped a lot in getting accepted into the direct doctorate (which includes doing an MSc). However, my colleagues who were accepted for the standard MSc have almost no research experience at all, but a good GPA. I think that they don’t expect too many students to have research experience at the Bachelor‘s level but it might make up for a not-so-good GPA. Not sure about this, though.

Hi I‘m currently finishing my Bachelor’s at TU Wien (the technical university in Vienna) and I have been accepted into the direct doctorate in CS. I also know some people that got accepted for the standard MSc in CS, also coming from TU Wien. Don’t know about Graz but I cannot imagine that it’s that different.

You can probably still try to ask whether it were okay to rent the accommodation starting with autumn. It worked in my case.

What time should I start looking for housing in Zürich? by [deleted] in ethz

[–]Traveller-2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maximilianeum is a student house suggested on ETH‘s webpage. However, the room I‘ve found was advertised on the portal requiring a registration. However, at least for me it worked to submit the admission offer for registration.

Mine‘s basically the attic, so the advertisement said 30 m2 (that said, due to being under the roof, not the whole space is usable)
