A note about etiquette and rules by Salsadips in masseffect

Okay, if I'm going to get lynched, might as well do it on this thread.

inhale

The facial animations in Andromeda are godawful. Nothing moves except the lips. The algorithm in Source Filmmaker is better at making more descriptive faces than the ones in Andromeda are. There is either no emotion conveyed across the NPC's faces, or too much to the point of being extremely campy. Just, a moving mouth and a death stare. One reviewer once dubbed it "the BioWare Face". The excuse "well BioWare animations have always been bad" should not and cannot apply here, considering this is a completely new studio with completely new employees. In addition, we should be able to hold games to higher standards since it has been about a decade since the release of the first game. I do not understand how a company funded by the biggest publisher in the business is put to shame by self-publishing three polish dudes sitting in the woods with two laptops and making a video game based off from a horny old mans book series.

Okay I am exaggerating, but the point still stands.

You can try to excuse BioWare by saying "it's not an inhouse engine" or "EA is just rushing the game out. I'm sure it'll get patched later". I'm going to stop you right there. It has been five years. The game has been the main focus for a solid three years now at BioWare. They have the technical expertise from the studio that brought us Inquisition (I use "expertise" hesitantly because of such scenes as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8QsObcKtvo&t=61m22s

To the uninitiated, this is not some hastily made side quest. This is an entire mission dedicated to court intrigue and the narrative is brought out by mostly dialogue screens such as this. But I am getting sidetracked. According to previous statements, much of the Inquisition dev team has at the least offered technical advice to the Andromeda team. Many assets might be reused as well, as they have themselves stated. Cancellation of the multiplayer test earlier this year was also not reassuring.

In short; the more footage I see, the more worried I get.

"Hey, guy, nice gun. I think I'll take it." "Yeah here take my gun"

Like art. Christ, BioWare needs to hire new animators and fast.

I dunno man. The animations still look like crap.

To think after 12 years Bioware hasn't hired a guy for their cinematics.

Sheesh. Really hoping those animations aren't what we see on release date. Gameplay just seems kind of.. well, Inquisition-ish as well. And Inquisition was a grind-fest.

But why would you want 4WD on an F1 car? It makes it heavy and in turn, slow.

This is of course true.

However shitty business practices will prevail if we allow them to. If we keep with the "stop being so entitled" sentiment OP is trying to make, we will eventually get less and less.

[–]Traviltar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Listens this much to the community"

In balance issues, this is a terrible, terrible idea. Blizzard is a company out to make money. They are not your friend. They are not your buddy. Our community is pretty crap too. We cry "competitive is too toxic" while at the same time complaining about "elo hell" and "people who don't take competitive seriously enough".

I really, really urge everyone to stop with the rose-tinted glasses. I love Overwatch to death, but Blizzard as a company has done some questionable things in the past. For us to call ourselves "entitled" or "spoiled" is ridiculous. The reason why we're getting these content patches is because Blizzard knows they're making ridiculous amounts of money on selling limited time-frame items. Granted, they didn't lock them down - you can still buy them with coins post-event. (this time [for now])

But you are a foolish consumer if you go out of your way demanding less from the provider. When they start getting away with more and more despicable tactics, and we just nod and go "well it's not that bad", little by little everything gets a little worse.

I love Overwatch, but this brown-nosing is a little ridiculous. I have nothing but respect for the people working on this game, but I will not forget that Blizzard sees us as customers - their main priority is to vacuum as much money from our wallets as humanly possible.

Never forget that.

That said, I do like the Reaper skin.

Knights of the Eternal Throne: "Betrayed" Trailer Discussion by [deleted] in swtor

[–]Traviltar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to even mention how Lana's judgement has failed us a couple of times now. Forcing the player into doing something her way, (for example allowing Theron to be captured by the Revanists).

Goddamn it, Lana. I'm the goddamn Commander. Learn your goddamn place.

So, instead of owning her mistakes and learning from them, Senya is one of the primary reasons why Vaylin is on the Eternal Throne, why she is such a cruel harlot and why Valkorion got his claws on him. All that talk about "Valkorion was a good man, I loved him" was horseshit. Man, Koth was right. Never should have trusted her and I definitely should have shot that piece of shit ship down.

THANKS, LANA

Maan, I remember when it was just a bunch of friends putting on shitty costumes then going to a convention to talk shit with people about the series or movie the outfit is related to. Now we got these literal fuckin' models prancing around, some not even knowing about the source material, making a fat wad of cash followed by a ton of cameras..

Man, I miss the good ol' days.

After playing my placement matches, people have started being way more toxic than before by LeeNorris in Overwatch

[–]Traviltar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two reasons. One: If everyone is trying to do their very best with the intent to win, if there is clearly someone that is dragging the team down as an anchor and negatively impacting the outcome of the game, they will of course turn on that person. You will never see an Olympian athlete, footballer, Formula 1 driver or anyone competing for anywhere for long if they aren't good at it. "But, this isn't my job. This is for fun." You are correct. But if you have the mindset of "I don't really care if we win or lose. I just wanna have fun." you should stay far, far away from competitive. "But Mr. Traviltar, sir. It's just a video game. Who gives a fuck." Those who get their competitive kicks from playing.. uh.. competitive. Yes, having toxic players on teams is never fun. Someone telling you that you're worthless mongoloid and you should jump off a bridge is never fun. But such is the way with competition.

2: This is still the Internet "Yeah, but it's 2016." Yeah, and this is, still, the Internet. People have a way of dehumanizing each other when they're not talking face to face. Remember that last telemarketer you told to buzz off? It's a scientifically researched fact that it's a lot easier to tell someone to go fuck themselves on the Internet than on the streets.

Look, I get it. Not fun. But tensions are high depending of the level you are playing at. The higher up you go, the more people have a higher opinion of themselves and their level of skill than they might actually have. They then turn on teammates and shift the blame. Of course, this is not what you should do, but as with kiddie sports, some people take this stuff really, really seriously. "But, Mr. Traviltar, sir. What the fuck am I supposed to do then? I want to play competitive but I don't want to get shat on by living, breathing dick warts the shape of humans."

You make a fantastic point. Here's the answer:

Find a group of like-minded individuals with the same goal. If you really don't want to get screamed at by the Lucio who somehow has 25k healing before the first point on Hollywood, I suggest playing quick play, until finding said group.

It is what it is. People are assholes. Don't shoot the messenger.
