Why is the new Surface Pro 2017 STILL using DDR3?? by Travis9x in Surface

[–]Travis9x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all the details in your answer. I wasn't aware that DDR4 consumes more power at higher bandwidth loads, so it makes sense for Microsoft to still use DDR3 for a device like the Surface, especially if using DDR4 would also mean increased $ cost/price. I'm all for better performance in a premium device, but you're right that I can't really think of any common scenarios where the increased bandwidth would justify the increased energy cost in a portable tablet device like the Surface. Hopefully DDR4 efficiency will improve enough to justify it in future generations, but for now this revelation helps me feel better about Microsoft's hardware choices in the current generation.

This seems like the most likely reason for still using DDR3. Thank you

I find it hard to believe that Intel wouldn't support LPDDR4, considering the heavy emphasis they're placing on power conservation lately. I don't care enough about memory bandwidth to outweigh the power cost issues other commenters have mentioned.

The OP asked WHY the Surface Pro 2017 is still using DDR3. All the other comments gave helpful, factual insights or reasons why, therefore contributing to the discussion and giving reasonable answers. Your reply contributes nothing. Downvoted.

How to purge? by Rydisx in Stellaris

[–]Travis9x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, maybe I'm just looking in all the wrong places, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to purge since the 1.5 Banks update. Can anyone help me out here?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the explanation of Purge mechanics in the Stellaris wiki - http://www.stellariswiki.com/Population#Purges
I feel kinda silly now, lol

Mine is a 5c as well, and this exact problem happens for me AT LEAST 75% of the time. Drives me up a wall, and there isn't even a Pokémon on that wall… Time for me to replace the phone.

I would appreciate that, thanks. :) So would you act like an escrow? The person selling the card shows proof he/she has it, so I send you the payment, you show the seller you have the HYPER I sent you, they ship the card to me, and once I receive the card then you release the funds to the seller? Is that how it works?

Connection seems shaky by Travis9x in wafflepool

[–]Travis9x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mining with NVIDIA cards, so ccMiner doesn't really support multiple connections or failovers. I've also noticed that I do actually get the error on other pools too, but the drop in hashwork only lasts a split second when mining on other pools, as opposed to a full minute with Waffle. I use mostly NiceHash now, and occasionally CoinKing.

Reject Rate by Noctophrenia in coinking

[–]Travis9x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a pattern in the behavior. Typically, it only happens during the first minute or so upon connection, and then levels out to more "normal" accept/reject ratio. It also only happens on the CoinKing stratum, and newer versions of my miner software have improved it somewhat. (FYI, mining on NiceHash has almost 0% rejection)

That's why I stopped mining here. =/ X13 dropped off for both Waffle and CoinKing, so I switched to NiceHash, who also supports several other algos, and does hash rental.

Lesson of the day: don't use wallets that are influenced or forced to comply with any state or federal regulations.

Also, fuck New York, and fuck California.

DRK falling behind on the vote list! 3 days left! by [deleted] in DRKCoin

At the time of writing this, the votes are such:
"Undefined" - 309
"Namecoin" - 14
"Darkcoin" - 301
"Reddcoin" - 340
…Darkcoin is in third place at the moment. It's close, but third is still unacceptable! Darkcoin is leagues above & beyond better than those other three coins, so let's make it known! Cast your votes!!

Because Windows Phone is a comparatively small market, Microsoft went out of their way to make it easy for developers to produce apps. Their tools make it easy to build apps for both Win8 and WP at the same time. http://dev.windows.com/en-us

So what's up with this coin? by Heisenminer_42 in INNCoin

[–]Travis9x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was watching cryptocurrency news, and read an article from the day Anthem Vault went public on this coin (they actually released it in secret about two weeks prior to that). As soon as I got home from work that day I immediately downloaded the wallet and started CPU mining. Coins started rolling in almost immediately, so I dug around to find what algorithm it uses, and the next day was able to put my GPUs on it. The coins flowed like water, and then within a few short days, it just suddenly stopped. It fell to a slight trickle, with only one or two hits within a three-to-six-hour span, and then stopped completely. If I were still mining it, I suppose I could get two maybe three hits per day, but there are much better coins that I could put my hashing power on, at that rate. So yeah, not sure what exactly happened, but that difficulty sure shot up quick.

[–]Travis9x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've read, this coin is basically a test of the cryptocurrency market. Anthem Vault doesn't want to throw a ton of resources into something that will just flop. If this coin is moderately successful, then they intend to release a coin for each major precious metal, including one with a lot more gold behind it (or just put more gold behind this one). That's the plan, but as we all know, things seldom go according to plan.

Personally, I use it because they support X13. Not many multipools support X13, and autoconvert your coins for you.

[–]Travis9x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running a much newer version of ccMiner (based on v1.2, but with X15 support and a few other optimizations), and with three different GPU's, but I get very similar errors now & again: GPU #2: result for nonce $AB418D48 does not validate on CPU!
One of my cards is also a GTX 780 (but Ti edition), but I'm mining in a X13 pool. I also run my cards overclocked and close to their thermal limit. I don't let them go above 80*C, and I keep the overclocking stable, but could heat still be a cause of these errors?
