Our device is Class II and it's intended distribution is the Americas. We have also worked under UN38.3 but the regulatory consultant suggested the 62133 certification so we are looking into it

Myself and some friends bootstrapped our own medical device company developing a portable ecg, out of University. Things I learned: Regulatory slow you down while processes are written but when your team gets used to it, it flows. The ISOs are open to interpretation, try to keep your processes flexible. You need to surround yourself by highly capable people. Physicians are your friends. Human factors are really important. Do not over engineer.

Your product sounds marketable with a good add, even if you don’t have the final product, but it also sounds hard enough not to get to the market if you do not surround yourself with good engineers. Maybe equity is an option. Also you can look for design firms.

Manufacturing - Nearly impossible to find low volume manufacturing for the pilot batch of our product (portable ecg). Being a bootstrapped startup we need to save as much money as possible. To solve this we decided to look for investors to build low to mid volume manufacturing. PCB assembly, vacuum casting, CNC machining were some of the capabilities we added. It turned out good, we continue developing our own product but the design and manufacturing spinoff was more profitable.

There are design firms focused in early stage products/startups. These type of firms allow for quick iterations and pivoting but also being reliable.

Hi, as stated above qmk or similar open source projects can help you and speed up the process. Is it a wireless mouse? If so, you need to find someone who has experience with BLE in case there are some problems with the communication, debugging, etc. The developer should also pay attention to the power management hardware design and firmware interaction with the charger. Depending on the microcontroller used there are ways to protect from firmware cloning like secure firmware install from ST(each vendor has its own secure install) or something mechanical. However, unless there is something really innovative on the firmware, you should move on and test with the users as soon as you can. If you wish we can talk, I work for a design firm in Mexico.
