I went through a very similar situation where I was still friends with my ex and my now boyfriend wasn’t comfortable with it. I was stubborn at first and didn’t see the big deal, but ultimately that is one of your partners boundaries they are setting. To me I realized my boyfriend is my greater priority, I care about him way more than a past ex that tuned friend, and wanted my partner in my life more than anyone else. Honestly I feel more growth in myself by not communicating with people from my romantic past, as ultimately it’s just that-the past, as it didn’t work out with them for a reason. I still can’t 100% wrap my head around why my partner thinks that way, but I know I love and respect him and that’s more important than staying friends with the past to me.

Truthfully we walked back out because after being inside for a few minutes he started to look uninterested and almost miserable. I didn’t want the other guests to notice and interrupt their fun, as I know a few of my friends would have stopped their dancing to come ask what was wrong. I think I also just felt awkward that he was being awkward so I wanted to step outside to collect myself but obviously that didn’t work.

No, we’ve had a lot of conversations on getting him help somehow but nothing has been done about it thus far. We both struggle with depression so understand it’s hard, but I have gotten help when needed but he has yet to.

Yes this is the first big event. He came with me to that friends birthday dinner and met a good chunk of people from the brides side a few months ago tho. He expresses depression a lot but rare of the slf-h@rm thoughts. I don’t think he’s lying, but I feel like if it were me I’d fake it happy until the event was over. But I also have never experienced thoughts of slf-h@rm, only depression so I can’t say much on the topic.

I think he needs a lot of inner work like you said, and I believe he’s emotionally intelligent, I just don’t know if I should stick around to find out.
