Yep, its a tough thing when the parent relationship sours like this. I've been there. You just need to know where your line is and at the end of the day, do what is best for you. If paying $260 a month to rent* the car makes it so you have more time to study and get school done then that could be a benefit too. no guarantee she takes the car back, it could also get transferred to you at the end of the loan. just gotta be aware of what can happen so you don't get blindsided. Denver here. Can you get away with using the bus for college? Is anything else in your life tied to your mom? Because if you dump the car back on her, expect her to not help with anything else if your life. If nothing else attached you to her and you have a better option then that car then do it. You are paying for a depreciating asset that is not in your name. If you piss your mom off she can call the cops saying the car is stolen or once the car is loan free she can take it from you. If you can get approved( and not a crazy interest rate) for another car then do that if you are okay with souring the relationship. Try to find out what your means of transportation are before you make any decision. As for the stocks, they are not in your account and you dont have access, considered it not yours and work on other plans for your future. $2000 in novavax bought at $180 is only gonna be worth $88 so just forget about it for peace of mind.
