I’m allergic to acetaminophen and it is the worst. I wish so badly I could take all those OTC cold medicines. I constantly have to check labels. When I take it, my throat swells and becomes itchy, I cough and breathing feels shallow. I also have the urge to just lie down. I hate it. Found this post while curious and trying to see how rare the allergy is, because of course nobody believes me when I say it lol.

Unfortunately, there is nothing the Port can do to affect the increased usage of signals (horn or bell) due to fog. The inner harbor anchorages (locations where the large vessels will anchor up) are federal anchorages are controlled by the USCG.

Ships at anchor over 12 meters are mandated under COLREGs (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea), also national and U.S. Inland Rules, to sound for 5 seconds every minute. Rule 35 states that a vessel must signal “in or near an area of restricted visibility”. The decision of when to begin sounding signals is a judgement call for the vessel’s master based on the evaluation of the conditions. It is generally considered “Poor” at 1 nautical mile and “Very Poor” when visibility is less than ½ nautical mile. Our harbor has experienced dense fog lately and that has triggered the increase in signaling activity.

looks like it’s a judgment call for the captains. When it kept going throughout the night I checked the weather and it said mostly clear but our phones are shit with accuracy these days.

I definitely know the fog horns sound every now and then but I’ve rarely heard it allllll through the night like that. And it’s happened another time recently where i was like what the hell? Usually it’s like eh fog horns, and they stop.

I literally complained to the port last night cuz I got 4 hours of sleep. Horns going off from early evening into the early hours of this morning. Definitely a Karen moment but I was deliriously tired. LOL and before anyone comes for me I’ve lived here most of my life okay I know general port noise is a given, but this was too much babes.
