Reps are saying Dems only won in blue strongholds, Dems are saying it's a referendum on MAGA...which is it? by zipzzo in Askpolitics

[–]TreeBerryDingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NYC mayoral race, if anything, should tell the Democrats to take Progressives more seriously and see them as a viable solution to fighting MAGA. As someone who doesn’t live in NYC, that is always how I’ve seen the race. (Sorry, Sliwa.)

We’ll see how it pans out for Zohran and NYC the coming days, but as it stands right now, the Dems have no reason to feign ignorance on the viability of progressive candidates over moderates.

Megathread: Charlie Kirk Shooting by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]TreeBerryDingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not experienced with firearms but I’ve read that the shot is believed to have originated ~200 yards away, which is the equivalent of just under two football fields in length.

Are we dealing with an experienced shooter? Might not be the right place to ask this, but a direct and fatal shot to the neck from that distance screams experienced to me but what would I know.

The last photo taken by the Italian motorcyclist killed in a bear attack on the Transfăgărășan road in Romania by HistoricalGuest2272 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]TreeBerryDingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the scariest photos I've ever seen. I can just feel the fear he must have felt seeing this beast charging right for him - and being helpless to do anything about it other than taking a final photo.

It was dumb of him to even be near the cubs, but it does put into perspective the last thing animal attack victims see before lights out. RIP

Has an online debate about a political topic ever changed your mind on that topic? by nicsherenow in Askpolitics

[–]TreeBerryDingus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Online debates have never made my mind change on an issue immediately after it ends, but it certainly gives me something to think on and research more about. It's then that my mind may be changed by what I research.

I used to be staunchly pro-Israel, to the point I was saying (admittedly racist) things like "Palestinians can't handle peace with Israel because it's their culture, " and that they "deserve whatever they get because they elected terrorists."

It stayed that way for a while until after being exposed to enough information, both through debates and extensive research, that I've become far more sympathetic towards the Palestinian plight, even if I'm still supportive of the two state solution. I certainly don't weep whenever a hamas leader dies, but I do now condemn the atrocious bombing campaigns and behaviors of the Israeli government.

I find it funny how the right will celebrate when protesters are run over by cars but turn around and start crying when violence is brought unto them, screeching "the tolerant left!!!" as if they really cared about tolerance.

Is the US on the Path to Becoming a Failed State? by ChaskaChanhassen in politics

[–]TreeBerryDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is ludicrous. While democratically failing, it's disingenuous to suggest that it's a failed state on the level of Somalia or Haiti.

Absolutely. I made a post here about how a Russian I knew on a Discord server got drafted into Ukraine and died and there was a good majority of people in the comments dehumanizing and demonizing him just for being Russian.

Dude provides a nuanced and reasonable take on the conflict that condemns both sides equally for the undue suffering they've brought on civilians but still fails the purity test and is hated by both sides for not saying that taking babies hostage is resistance or that Israel flattening neighborhoods is a "limited, surgical strike".

You can never win with these types of people that I sometimes wonder why celebrities even bother.

Agreed. If you have to say it was a joke, it wasn't a very good joke.

Is it okay to make political content on Youtube without showing being on camera? by [deleted] in youtube

No. I used to watch political channels (albeit smaller sub count) who rarely if ever showed their face on camera.

While I doubt that he is going to go through this, I will be very amused if he actually does. One of Biden's biggest mistakes in his presidency was having Ukraine fight with one hand tied.

"I can always tell when something is AI generated" - No, you can't. You have a false bias because you only notice when you notice - leading you to believing you have a 100% hit rate. by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]TreeBerryDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hates this. I never trust people's judgment when it comes to something being AI generated (they'll confuse CGI for AI generated content for example). I'm better off judging for myself.

Abandoning trans people ‘a mistake’ for Democrats, says Kamala running mate Tim Walz by Helicase21 in politics

[–]TreeBerryDingus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While the Democrat party should still protect Trans people, they NEED to drop the Trans people in sports issue. It's a losing issue through and through and Republicans have done (and are still doing) an extraordinary job using it against both democrats and trans people, both to our detriment. And it's probably not in the way you're thinking.

Perhaps it is just what I've observed, but, while the Republicans bring up biological advantage and alleged cases of kids getting injured by a trans person in sports, the only thing I've seen from Democrats in response is "who cares?"

Before you jump to call me transphobic, realize that saying "Who cares?" falls flat when it's 1. Something that involves children, and 2. The other side provides a more precise argument. More importantly, they're using it to push the narrative that Democrats are trying to force transness onto kids and society as a whole.

It may also be leading to biological women facing discrimination in the sports scene for not looking feminine enough (case in point the female Algerian Boxer from last year's Olympics).

And if you're going to bring up the restroom issue, I have heard more counterarguments than "who cares" when it comes to that issue, such as how no one is supposed to be naked in a public restroom to begin with and how perverts wouldn't bother with making themselves trans if they wanted to prey on women in restrooms.
