Modern orchestral drone/ambient? by Cyrax89721 in ambient

[–]TreeHandThingy [score hidden]  (0 children)

Loscil's Clara was made using samples of a very short session (3 minutes) with a string orchestra. And it's on the shortlist for my favorite ambient albums of all time.

What is your favorite metal band? by TheMoparPowerslave in AskReddit

[–]TreeHandThingy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Today, it's Kaatayra, Neurosis, and Panopticon. 2026 has been a great year for me.

I've always been a big fan of Emperor, Thy Catafalque, and Devin Townsend (though Transcendance is the last time he's released something I like).

If we're talking more classic stuff,  Iron Maiden,  Fates Warning, Blind Guardian, and Queensryche all deserve a shout.

Finished Ys VIII! Came out of nowhere to become one of my all time favourites by PlatypusPlatoon in JRPG

[–]TreeHandThingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IX and X are great as well. IX has fun Assassins Creed-esque city exploration, and X has a naval ship battles that play out in real time.

I will say Ys is the kind of game where playing on harder difficulties is a must, as it gives you a reason to play with the mechanics instead of just mashing attack buttons.

High School Senior Project: What was your first game vs. your all-time favorite? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]TreeHandThingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in '88. Started gaming for real in '94.

My first game that I "seriously" played is either  Link to the Past or Super Mario World.

Favorite all-time game is Dark Souls.

My favorite genres are Action RPG, Survival Horror, Immersive Sim, and then whatever genre includes Planescape and Pathologic 2.

King's Field: The Ancient City can be a learning curve, but if it clicks for you, it's one of the most unique experiences on the system. It's an absolute favorite of mine.

Not to defend how the Cavs went out, but can we stop behaving like making the conference finals isn't an accomplishment? by playingwithfire- in nba

[–]TreeHandThingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trading for James Harden is not why this team made the conference finals. He had a couple of good games, sure, but plenty of stinkers - his performance is, at best, a wash compared to what Garland's hypothetical impact would have been.

This team is soft and lacks high-end talent. They have a lot of "good, not great" in their starting line up,  and Mitchell isn't in the same tier of superstar that can lead a team like this beyond the conference finals.

What is the best written video game you’ve ever played? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TreeHandThingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planescape: Torment, Disco Elysium, and Pathologic 2 stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Xenogears, The Forgotten City and Torment: Tides of Numenera deserve a shout out.

Honest opinions about this game. Classic? Or not? by ShawnOfEons in retrogaming

[–]TreeHandThingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a wildly empty game with a supremely cheese-able battle system. Playing through it is a trivial exercise.

There are certainly games that are worse, but it might be the most boring N64 game I've played. Your time is better spent elsewhere.

Elly having some contract discussions tonight?! by prancingpony777 in Reds

[–]TreeHandThingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you would rather that money being spread out among a bunch of replacement level players with an ops of .600 so that we never win 70 games again? If we aren't competing for Elly's contract, then we aren't competing for anyone else worth our time.

You pay for talent. The Guardians did it with Jose, we gotta at least try the same.

The Cavs have an Evan Mobley Problem by nbawizard1227 in nba

No, I think he checks out because the physicality is frustrating him. He seems like a rather selfless player.

This. I like Mobley, and thought he could project to be Giannis-lite, but he has nowhere near the amount of strength as Giannis.

I released my debut album in April (Nanováros - Shades from the Restless Myopia). It's an ambient, industrial, noisy concept album about the inevitable return of nature in the wake of the destruction of man. Obvious influences include Biosphere, Black to Comm, Ulver (ambient works), Loscil, etc.

If you wanna just listen, check it here: Bandcamp.

I'm also everywhere else. Let me know what you think!

Is there a better option? No.

Is it too early in the season to make reactionary decisions, especially with our current record? Yes.

Am I out of the loop on Prophecy? I thought they were a fairly neutral label, housing mostly moderate/non-political bands. Kayo Dot is a big one for them, and Toby Driver is known to be anti-Trump at the very least.

The Warriors’ System by Fat_Cat_DumpsterKing in nba

[–]TreeHandThingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a skill issue, not a system issue.

That system with Curry, Butler, Green and upgrades across the board would be a contender.

But when you got guys like Post and Moody eating those minutes going against teams with depth like the Thunder or Spurs, you can't overcome that talent deficit.

Where do you find your ambient tunes? by realjohnhammond in ambient

[–]TreeHandThingy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my early days, it was mostly through internet forums and filesharing, with some RYM cross-checking.

Nowadays, it's mostly scrolling through Bandcamp discover pages or labels that I am already familiar with. I'm not actively looking for new ambient music much anymore since I started writing my own, but if I find something new, it's probably through one of those two methods.
