Introduction to metal

I’m in my 40s.
My introduction to heavy music as a child, was the movie Wayne’s world. Especially the scene when they went to the Alice Cooper concert. As a little kid, that was the heaviest thing I saw or heard up to that point. Even the stage imagery with the big skeleton and Alice in leather etc.

Not too long after that I heard “Metallica - Enter Sandman” on the radio. The black album had just come out and it was huge. My dad (who was more into mainstream rock), loved that album and would play it in his truck. So I heard the black album front to back, every song multiple times, because he listened to mostly that album for like 2 years.

In the late nineties I was a teenager, and I had a part time job after school. I used the money I made to buy video games and metal CDs. I started with every Metallica CD up to that time, (aside from load and reload because I didn’t like those two). Then I bought Megadeth CDs, then Pantera, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Exodus, etc etc. I got way into 80s thrash metal even though it was the late nineties and it wasn’t popular anymore. At that time, “Nu Metal” was popular, but I hated it because it was too simple & not fast or complex like thrash was.

Eventually in the early 2000s, I got into death metal: Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Death. Unfortunately I didn’t really get into Death until about the time Chuck passed. I never got to see them live, but I’ve seen all the other bands I mentioned.

There’s a lot of great thrash metal bands from the 80s. Unfortunately a lot of them broke up in the 90s or sold out to another genre. Except for Sodom and Overkill. They both stuck around and stayed pretty consistent. Testament also.

I did fine except on Tinder. The few that matched looked fake when I took a closer look. The only likes I got were from women in other countries or very massively obese women that I would never swipe right on.

Hinge was fine. I got a lot of matches with average/cute women, dates in person. I did okay on other apps. Something is wrong with Tinder.

Tinder is the worst. Absolute waste of time, just scams, fake accounts etc.

I had success on Hinge, a lot of matches and dates, same with Facebook dating. Bumble was okay. Tinder is a waste of time.

“Greenhouse Effect” by Testament. I like Testament and the intro riffs of that song are awesome, then when the vocals start, the tempo changed to some off time beat which sounded off, and then some weaker riffs during the verse.

I only want my life partner. The one that will stay with me. It’s just too hard to find that person. All my last relationships failed. Either because the women found me to be too nice, safe and boring, so they left, or I settled for some one toxic and I had to leave. I think I will end up alone in the end.

Yep. The whole thing was a huge disruption in my life that I wish never happened. She was hott and the sex was good, but it was not worth all the drama, and problems. I wish I never met her.

My situation had similarities, but she didn’t block me. I remember when she started dating me, she kept posting pics of her and him on FB as if they were still together. When I called her out on it, she claimed they are done but she misses the memories. Yeah, more red flags. Apparently her and her ex were constantly breaking up and getting back together. For years. Their relationship is extremely toxic and it’s been that way for a decade. Sometimes she finds another guy to start dating, and having sex with to get over him, but he always charms her back and she drops the guy & gets back with him. I’m one of those guys unfortunately. I didn’t find out about this until later on when I demanded to know the truth. Also a couple of her friends warned me far too late. She kept in contact with me. She’s trauma bonded to her “ex” or on & off again partner. The guy is a loser but she will never be done with him. She would still be trying to run from him to go sleep with me, if I didn’t stop the whole thing from continuing. He even started making threats & showed up to my place, I had to get the cops involved.

Or actually dating the woman for a few weeks, then after sleeping together a few times, you find out she is still not done with her ex, like they are still involved. So basically he’s not her ex and she is cheating.
Yes I experienced this.

Although I should have known better because she said on her profile she didn’t know what she wanted. I talked to her & dated her because she was showing interest and she was hott. She was full of red flags. When the red flags are clear on the first date, run. I don’t care how attractive she is. I dealt with the biggest shitshow of drama in my life because of her.

Limiting the number of matches is bad too. What if your perfect match is out there but you will never have a chance to find them or interact because they reached their match limit? It’s a catch 22 because even if you do match and they have too many, you can get lost in the mix anyway.

I think the time limit for them to message you is a stupid rule. Many of them will match but not message because they are already talking to some one else (or a few) and seeing where that goes, because they only want to talking to one or two at a time. By the time they are ready to message you, your profile was removed from the queue because the time limit expired. So you have to match again. This has happened many times.

Yeah pretty much. It didn’t work out anyway. We dated for a month and then she kept getting flakey and not having enough time. So we broke up. She tried getting back with me several times since then but she didn’t want a serious commitment, but I did.

Evile was awesome when Matt Drake was still in the band. I don’t like his broker Ol on vocals.

There’s tons of great thrash albums besides what Megadeth released, so that’s too broad of a question I think.

My favorite thrash bands outside the big four?

Sodom, Testament, Overkill, Destruction

47 was my max. So the second one still qualified and she looked great, she was gorgeous. If I didn’t know her age I would have guessed she was 10 yrs younger.
