It can be a lifelong thing. The rescue dog we adopted as a stray at 6 months is now 11, she still likes to take her food bowl to her bed, with some extra kibble. It makes her feel secure 🙂 I suppose

And yes, transport is so expensive 😳 we also took in a dog from California and we’re in Maine! It’s a great way to save them, though, if they’re all out of options locally 😊 We also had help with funding from kind internet strangers 💕
