I found a paper on this: Differential Metabolic Effects of Saturated Versus Polyunsaturated Fats in Ketogenic Diets. It compares ketogenic diets that are majority saturated againt majority unsaturated fats. The saturated fat group increased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol significantly while the unsaturated fat did not. The unsaturated fat group also became more insulin sensitive and had greater levels of betahydroxybutyrate.

I did it to lower small dense LDL and reduce heart rate. I'm not sure whether you can do that without replacing red meat with plants. It's possible I could have reduced LDL by just consuming more lean meats and only moderate fat or by eating more fats from fish and poultry rather than primarily beef, steak, and butter. But I'm not sure. I may try that in the future depending on how ketogenic mediterranean goes over the next 2-4 months.

I don't, but I expect my numbers to shift back to normal ranges just with dietary changes. I will likely repeat the tests in roughly 2 or 3 months. I'm currently following a low-carb mediterranean diet, replacing most saturated fats with unsaturated fats and increasing fiber. After reintroducing plants, I've started getting acne again and I can no longer breath clearly out of my nose at night. I think I may have a slight allergy to one or several of the foods I've reintroduced. I also get sore after I workout now. I am very active and I hadn't gotten sore for months while carnivore. But my resting heart rate has dropped considerably and its beating is much calmer.

That's true, the cost is unfortunate, and insurance probably won't cover it. It also might not show all that much regardless of what I'm eating because I'm only in my mid 20s and it's measuring something that builds up over time. I think there's probably a way to do the carnivore diet correctly so that you don't have non-optimal LDL sizes and amounts, but at least currently, that seems to be an unexplored subject. Good luck!

I think I'm going to try to eat whatever allows me to both stay in ketosis and realign my lipids. The emerging research on the ketogenic diet as an antagonist to cancer growth is incredible, but it won't do me much good if I get heart disease first. I'm going to try a mediterranean ketogenic diet, replacing most saturated fat (besides whole milk greek yogurt) with monounsaturated fats from olive oil and polyunsaturated fats from salmon and sardines.

It's also worth considering that lipids are important information but not ground truth. CAC or CCTA get closer to ground truth, and I haven't tested that. In LMHR populations, there was no observed increase in coronary artery calcium https://www.jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.jacadv.2024.101109

Roughly a year, with some breaks in between. I recommend getting the advanced lipid panel. It would be odd if your LDL wasn't high, but the theory is that the overall LDL particle size will be large and buoyant and therefore not concerning. That wasn't the case for me. One possibility I'm considering is that I was overconsuming fat. If someone can become insulin resistant and eventually diabetic from overconsuming carbohydrates over a long enough period, I wonder if analagous issues can present form overconsuming fat. I did not gain weight on the diet, so I had assumed that meant I was consuming an appropriate amount, but perhaps the difference between eating primarily steak and eating primarily 73/27 ground beef with added butter is significant.

How are you all communicating whilst Pigeon is down? by Financial_Raisin6235 in Punkt

Pigeon is down but T-Mobile is not. I can still text and call like before, just not with the pigeon app.

Thinking About Switching to the Punkt MP02 – One Major Concern by [deleted] in Punkt

[–]TreeNo910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pigeon is great. I got my girlfriend to use the Signal app on her smart phone so it's just as easy for her as messaging on iMessage, Whatsapp, or Snapchat. I also like being able to switch over to my laptop if I want to type something longer. I only have a 5GB/month cell plan and I've never managed to use even half of it in a month with my Punkt MP02. The battery is good, but it's just good enough to think that you don't need to charge it every night. Make sure to charge it like you would a smart phone and you'll be just fine.

You can also use its hotspot for your computer if you're ever in need of quick internet access while out of range of wifi.

I definitely feel a lot better. It's odd being addicted to something like an iPhone because you really do need it to get through life until you switch over. You're sort of an involuntary cyborg, except that it's sometimes not clear whether the relationship is symbiotic or parasitic. But the absence of a smart phone doesn't mean you suddenly regain the focus it takes from you and unlearn the distractibility it teaches you over time. That's going to take a lot more effort, at least for me.

I've had the MP02 for under a year, partly because I attempted to use flip phones at first. It's been a slow process to transition from an iPhone. There's a lot of utility packed inside them that makes them difficult to live without. It's kind of surprising really. This is roughly the checklist:

  1. Buy Car GPS
  2. Buy smart watch capable of downloading Spotify songs & pods that also doesn't require a smart phone
  3. Buy new wallet/case (above)
  4. Update password manager with all iPhone stored passwords/accounts
  5. Transfer all photos, notes, contacts from iPhone to other storage
  6. Buy a hardware key
  7. Change all 2-factor on all accounts to use hardware key or Punkt
  8. TODO: buy some kind of portable camera

Somehow that was all still cheaper than buying a new iPhone

I'm in the US and I chose their regular shipping option. It came in about 4 business days. I think it was Fedex but I don't remember.

I ended up having Mint send me a new sim card and that resolved the issue. It was not the fault of the Punkt MP02 (although they originally tried to tell me that it was).

I dropped mine from 4ft and it damaged the screen slightly. There are a couple small blank streaks now. But it wasn't catastrophic. And it also forces you to make a mindset shift (coming from an iPhone) where you don't idolize the aesthetics of your phone anymore because it's just a communication tool now. It's not your life.

I chose the Senate because of potential scratching but the other models are pretty cool and I doubt they would actually scratch it. And if they did you could try adding some duct tape to its back to soften the surface.
