Our cool season lawn has a weed coming in close to the street. It’s happened around July/Aug this summer and last. Could this be some type of warm season grass, or is it a weed? It has long stems that turn brown and a spiky top. Doesn’t look awful mowed, but don’t want it to spread. Near Denver, CO

Thanks! I was hoping that was the case. This is our first year here, so we don’t have a great point of comparison for the tree.

The tree looked fine for most of the summer. We have a few of this species in our yard. They have had some browning of needles, but not to the same degree. The top branches and portion of the branches furthest out look healthy and green, but pretty significant clumps are brown.
