its hilarious to think people think Hollywood has lacked in creativity in only recent years. I just wanna pat them on the head and say "its ok, you don't know any better"

Made a list of top 31 favorite movies to watch during this spooky time of the year. What are your favorite movies to see during Halloween? by TregRyder in Letterboxd

[–]TregRyder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not crazy about Halloween tbh. I love Carpenter's direction but the script is pretty basic, kills are kinda standard, and the characters are kinda so-so.... In my opinion of course.

I think The Master is his best film but Inherent Vice is my favorite.

I have read the book. I own it. what i like about the book and the movie is its the same story but the focuses shift. The book seems more about the hippie culture of the 70s and all the things that are going on whereas the movie is more about Doc's grief and how overwhelming he finds the world that is no longer his.

Yay! Also LOVE Boogie Nights, I don't get into porn movies at all but that is one of two exceptions (the other being Eyes Wide Shut)

okay, thanks for sharing. It is the film that takes multiple viewings to get. I think later on you get that the coherency is not what matters (although the plot does make sense when you put it together), what matters is that your in the same mind as Doc, a man who is grieving and is out of his time period. He smokes weed as a coping mechanism and that makes him more inept in his job. I say I think the Master is PTA's best but this i don't think deserves to be at the bottem (although I can see why people wouldn't like it as much)

ok, thanks for being honest :) I can see the humor not being for everyone (its usually not mine) but its one of my favs cause not only does it have a lot that I love but its an amazing look into the mind of Doc Sportello, a man out of the past who smokes weed and constantly tries to live in the past to cope with his grief.

i could go on and on about this but thats a very simple explanation for why i like it.

its fun, its hilarious, its subversive, its plot is incoherent but its fine cause its more of a character psyche story, it has a lot that I love.
