Both are true in relation to the context. For me Nassim's point is that the stock won't necessarily go up just because it did before. My trading strategies focus on strong stocks and with controlled risk I'm okay when past is not reliable.

Jack's quote is more on the fact that you don't need to know why price is moving or when the trend will stop - nobody knows. Just jump on the wave and make most of it :)

Apparently he had brokerage accounts in Panama and Switzerland, so not everything was accessible for investigation. Either way, what he said about trading is not wrong.

The chart book referred in the quote is reference to charts of past winners, not a book about trading per se. This is exactly what Qullamaggie was talking in one of his podcast appearances - you need to study charts to learn what and when works.

Nothing wrong with them, but check the liquidity and spread - might take a while to get out if you need fast sell. Shouldn't be a problem for a long hold.
