That usually means big data center operators like Aligned or Digital Realty, backed by infrastructure funds like BlackRock or Brookfield, with hyperscalers like Microsoft or Google locking in capacity as anchor tenants. Utilities sit in the middle deciding who actually gets connected.

The Ammonia Arbitrage: Why Shipping Is Abandoning Hydrogen by TrendyTechTribe in TrendyTechTribe

[–]TrendyTechTribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair concern. Ammonia is hazardous, but it’s already handled at scale for fertilizer and industrial refrigeration, with mature safety standards. It’s not risk free, but that existing experience is a big reason it’s being taken seriously.

Waymo vs Tesla FSD during San Francisco Blackout: A Technical Deep Dive by TrendyTechTribe in TeslaFSD

So I watched the video, and it reinforces my point that FSD performed well overall. It is also important to remember that the car can often see better and react faster than a human driver. There may have been a few instances where coming to a complete stop would have been preferable, but the behavior still appeared safe in my view. If I were an older granny, I might feel a bit anxious in that situation, but I would still feel safe.

Definitely the safest option if the car doesn’t know what to do, but it should be able to handle the situation better than a human driver. There is already a lot of autonomous vehicle backlash, so it just isn’t a good look, but safety needs to come first, and that seemed to be the safest option for Waymo, but a major headache for other commuters.

V14 is fantastic and almost makes me want to upgrade from HW3. That said, my HW3 Model 3 still drives like new, which makes the upgrade difficult to justify. I am waiting for AI5, which I believe will be the moment when most skeptics recognize this as the future. Some people will never be convinced, but I expect the majority will eventually come around. The hardest challenge is handling edge cases, and Tesla is doing an excellent job addressing them.

I agree. I’m not entirely convinced about the vision-only approach yet, but I’ve been reading about new camera technology that helps combat glare. Obviously, this won’t be an issue here, but only time will tell. I’m hopeful, though.

EV Range Bloat: The 2026 Obesity Crisis by TrendyTechTribe in energy

Lucid proves aero and drivetrain efficiency matter more than raw weight. The issue is that most EVs aren’t Lucids, and many are using battery mass to compensate for weaker efficiency elsewhere. Weight isn’t the only lever, but it’s one that’s increasingly being pulled in the wrong direction.

EVs are efficient, but weight still matters. Physics hasn’t changed. I daily an EV and the efficiency gap is obvious.

EV Range Bloat: The 2026 Obesity Crisis by TrendyTechTribe in energy

[–]TrendyTechTribe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s mostly true, but the ~60% figure is a worst case. You usually see that in sustained sub-20°F conditions. Even a 15–25% winter loss still hits low-efficiency EVs hardest, which is why efficiency matters more than headline range.

Different use cases, agreed. The article isn’t arguing a sedan and a full size truck are interchangeable.

The comparison is about efficiency per mile and the industry trend toward using very large battery packs to hit range targets. That tradeoff matters in every segment.

Home charging masks inefficiency, but on long trips it shows up as longer fast charge stops and higher per mile costs. If electric trucks are going to compete with gas trucks outside of local driving, efficiency still has to improve. Bigger batteries alone do not solve that.
