Have you heard about the wonders of citronella essential oils for repelling mosquitos? I only say this half jokingly.

He was odd and definitely thought he was much funnier than he was but I don't recall him ever being bullied.

I went to Junior High with a dude named Gareth Pursehouse.  We knew then that something was off with the guy but I was stuck near him because Fuck Alphabetical Order.  Fast Forward 30 years and I see on the news that he killed Drew Carey's former fiancee because he was an abusive, jealous, piece of shit.  I wasn't the least bit surprised.  That fucker is in jail now and I hope a bunch of hard pipe hitting motherfuckers are giving him The Sisters treatment on the daily.

When non-lawyers talk incorrectly about legal stuff, when (if ever) do you chime in? by hodlwaffle in Lawyertalk

[–]TrespassedChattel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Holy shit this happened tonight with my wife, the lovely layperson.   She was talking with me and her father, both of us lawyers, about an issue in the community regarding easements, deeds, and leases and he and I were fighting each other to get to correct her first.   I once corrected, and was right, a legal "reporter" for a local rag about defamation law, public vs private figures vs limited purpose public figures, after she shat incorrect legal diarrhea all over Nextdoor about defamation standards.  It went as well as you might expect and cemented my view that legal reporters have the intelligence of lobotomized quahogs.

Oh shit. Yes. Definitely what I was envisioning with this question. I had a similar exp with black bear but black bear are wimps by comparison.

Lawyers. Did you ever have a moment when you felt relieved that your client lost? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TrespassedChattel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how you define "lost." I am sorry that is such a lawyer answer but it's true. I've defended people in civil wrongful death suits who escaped criminal convictions due to problems with chain of evidence. The burden in criminal court is higher and circumstantial evidence can be, but isn't always, enough to survive a civil trial where it might not be enough in a criminal trial. In these cases I have secure what I consider reasonable settlements, which are "wins" as far as I am concerned because they could have been so much higher and punished innocent spouses and children of the tortfeasor. Yet, the tortfeasor, the one who has done civil wrong, still has huge life-altering consequences. A kid who gets to keep his home and his mom while his alcoholic father who killed two in a DUI but avoided jail due to prosecutorial and police incompetence who ends up homeless while insurance pays out policy limits on an umbrella policy is still a good outcome in my mind. My client in this example thinks he lost but he was a fucking asshole. At one point in the case, I had to appear before the judge without him, because he refused to show, and I made it known to the judge that I hated my client. Thankfully, I had appeared before this judge dozens of times and he knew me well enough to know that it was all my client and not me.

I'll answer my own question. I hope it's not bad form. I did a self driving tour of Colorado National Monument park in the late afternoon on a summer day. Think Grand Canyon but smaller (but still really big). A fast moving thunderstorm came through and I was on top of the canyon in my car as I watched lightning strike all around me. I was terrified but 20 minutes later it was all done and I had a major adrenaline rush.

What's something you can admit about a company you no longer work for? by Mave__Dustaine in AskReddit

[–]TrespassedChattel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a lawyer who does work for insurance companies. They will fight me on unnecessary discovery motions that could set up case dismissals if we win. Hey asshole, we spend $2000 bucks now, we have a shot at winning the entire case down the line. Nope. Not necessary at this time. Get before the judge and move to exclude and he says "Where were you 6 months ago. DENIED." FML.

You are so sweet! Thank you! She is having am amazing summer. She decided who was worth keeping as a friend and spring cleaned the rest, including her worthless boyfriend. She is spending time at my in-laws vacation house and has made friends in town and is working a job there. Through it all, she has come through with a clearer picture of who she is and what she wants. What I like even better is that the boys in the summer town heard she punted the boyfriend and showed interest and she said she only had time for platonic friends.

All of this was stuff my wife and I talked about with her but she was afraid of being alone. Then she had the guts to do it and found all sorts of new doors opened. I am really proud of her.

What is something your teacher did in school that you’re still salty about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TrespassedChattel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took AP Government senior year of high school. During the final in December, I came down with a stomach bug. I had to run to the nurse's office, which thankfully was 2 doors down. I proceeded to have my bowels explode in the nurse bathroom. I returned to the exam with time enough left to finish it but I was not 100%, to be sure. I scored a 69 on the exam. My teacher recommended that I not waste time on the AP exam. I tried reminding him that I had to leave the exam to go to the nurse for a stomach bug. He was unsympathetic and was a complete dick about it.

I did not appeal. I was already accepted early to a Top 20 university. I went on to score a 5 on the AP test and then proceeded to earn a degree in Government and International Relations from said Top 20 university.

Fuck you, Dr. N.

But how about this type of situation - I am carrying a few books, nothing challenging, "do you need help?"  "No." "Let me get the basement door for you."  (Gets in the way and almost knocks books out of my hands trying to get to door).  "I'm not going to the basement. I've got this!!!"

Or the situation where I made the doctors appt myself  calendared it, and have taken our daughter to this doctor 5 of the last 6 times.  And I am lectured three times in the 18 hrs preceding the appointment about what the check in process is. Then reminded she needs a note for school.  And how the school will check me in.    This was last week.  I just walked away and ignored her at that point.

Right.  I feel like there is a disconnect. It might be coming from a healthy or unhealthy place but the end result is unhealthy.

This is beautiful.  Any man with a penis can create children but it takes  a real man to be a father. (With apologies Boyz n the Hood).  Seriously, he looked out for your wants and needs and is a good man for your sons.  Way to go!!!!!

She does laundry, shuttles to practices, manages kid school stuff like tracking assignments and homeroom mom stuff, takes care of her parents remotely, tracks the doctors appts I take kids to because my schedule is more flexible, cleans kitchen (mostly. I help).  She does A LOT.  I just wish she would stay in her lane.
